I'm not sure what's up but ever since I started to take my medication a week ago, I can't watch tv. I'm NOT interested in it! I'd much prefer read or putter around the house or surf the boards.
I'm not complaining by any means
I find it incredibly refreshing.... yet wierd.
Can anyone relate?
TV sucks.
i don't relate to tv very well either. i find it either uninteresting or extremely annoyingly, completely irritatingly stupid and nerve-grating. of anything, i like to watch non-fiction. when i was in the US i watched C-SPAN, Bloomberg, and other non-fiction channels or listened to the music --- although even sometimes the history channel i would find too patronising or irritating or far too much like fiction with crappy dramatic pauses which again starts to push up my blood pressure.
although i am not in any way a sports fan, in the uk i don't mind if it is the cricket or golf because people still talk SLOWLY and with a level of respect or calmness that you don't otherwise tend to hear on the tv. it's not this ubiquitous, over-dramatic, shouty voice which gets my nerves every time!
but, in general, i have low tolerance levels for tv. and if someone insists on having it on in the background on a whiny soap; shouty, aggressive mini-series or chat show i have to leave the room because it just gets inside my brain...
.
yup, i'm difficult i guess. but if they don't want to turn the driveling nonsense off i do at least try not to make a dramatic exit just quietly slink off myself and find somewhere away from it.... to read/think/potter/cook/do something etc. as you said

chjones38694.1520486111Television is 80 to 90 percent below the intelligence level of a normally intelligent person. I've spouted off about this many times, maybe I am just jealous I find it impossible most times to veg out in front of the television which it seems is what everyone does with their spare time. I don't use mine much more construcively but YUCK!!! Television sucks.
i'd rather read. but i don't.
well, short things. 1-2 page articles, things like that.
i have read many books, but cannot sit and read by choice. has to be hyperfocus or i read the same damn paragraph 4 times and still don't have a clue what i just read.
tv is now the opiate of the masses. sadly, i'm a junkie. but it has to make me laugh or think. it kind of takes the place of people. if i get bored or frustrated, i just hit the remote!
Goober,
I started Adderall on 12/02 and noticed the same thing. I have a couple favorite shows and I just had no interest in watching them at all, when before I couldn't wait until they came on. I thought it was odd but not exactly bad. I DID watch this week and liked them but I don't care like I did before.
Hmmmm. Interesting.
I hear that a lot goober. I too haven't felt like doing what used to drag me under - like non-stop TV. Now I have it still in the background but it's noise not something I watch.
Now video games are something I don't do anymore since meds. Before I could do hours of games - now I can't even start one. It was wierd but sure gave me extra time I needed!
I think it releases some compulsions we had - that were specifically due to ADHD. Who knows!
Hmmmm, Sci-fi fan. I like a few pointy eared shows on T.V., But if I've seen them twice, I pretty much know the dialogue and it gets really boring. CNN used to be a favorite before Sept. 11, now it's like as propaganda machine with our own disasters UP FRONT! I'll probably never turn it on unless it's showing a documentary, history, an action film I haven't seen, or Sci-Fi. Maybe some animae? Will CNN news ever recover? Stay tuned!
i think some of the things we do, like video games and television, are adaptations to focus problems, sometimes being overwhelmed or bored with the chores of living, and need for stimulus.
maybe the meds help us bypass that stuff, and get on with those things that vex our adhd brains.
not being medicated, except for constant caffeine intake, it's just a thought.
me too eversince adderal tv viewing is down about 90%. The shows are way to stupid for me to understand! Turn on the music and be way more productive!
