No insurance- need help with funds | ADHD Information

kleeznpooterzma, thank you for your suggestion. I have filled out some information on the web to get help, but I'm not sure what the turn around it for it. It's been a horrible week. I don't have money to pay after school care, utilities, buy groceries, and not enough money for gas for the next week. I do have an appt with Catholic Charities on Monday to help with the utilities, but I'm not sure if I will qualify. We are always told that we make to much. Well if that was the case, I would be able to pay my bills.

I can't wait till my husband finishes school. I want to go back home SO BAD. I'm glad I found this site. I think this will help me deal with things a little better. I just want the best for my daughter and it hurts to see her get put in the middle of our messes, you know? I know it's stressful on her as well. She knows things aren't the way they used to be and even though I try to make it nice for her here, she sees me upset more than I'd like for her to.

Well, that's enough self pity. I have finals this weekend and I need to get to studying. I hate tests!

Try needymeds.com

It will show you all the available programs for the med you need.

Last fall I began a new job in which the insurance wouldn't go into effect for 4 months.  I knew my son needed his medicine so I discussed it with his pediatrician (she prescribed his Ritalin LA).  She had her nurse call the pharmacy rep that distributes the Ritalin LA and he had an application that we could use to apply for free meds (just the Ritalin LA).  The doctor had to complete and sign a portion of the application and write a new prescription- we had to submit proof of income and write a brief statement as to why we needed the assistance.  We only had to pay out of pocket once before receiving a letter saying that they would provide his Ritalin LA gratis for up to a full year. They sent a presciption card that would only work for the Ritalin and the only requirement was that if he became insured we had to notify and it would cancel.  Perhaps other companies have this same kind of program.  It was a blessing for us for three whole months!  Good Luck!!

I was just switched form concerta to adderall and gave my leftovers to the doc

try some local shrinks in your area

Talk to the pharmacists in your area. It requires a bit of leg work but I've found that prices for meds differ greatly at different pharmacies. When you ask for prices make sure you ask if there is a different price for people without insurance. I was able to get more money knocked off the meds just because I asked this and did some searching around my neighborhood for the best rates.

The meds are still expensive but every little bit helps. I know the feeling of having to choose between having electricy and hot water or getting meds.

Another option which works if you are living paycheck to paycheck is don't fill the entire months worth of pills all at once. Sure it's a bit of a pain having to run to the pharmacy every week to pick up the meds but sometimes breaking it up gives you some time to scrounge up more cash before it's time for a refill.
last option...ritalin?  You can contact the company that makes Concerta directly. There must be a contact number or website listed in the information packet you receive with the meds. If not, just do a google for concerta. There will be a link there for contacting the company. Ask them about it. Many companies have their own free and reduced med programs.

Thanks Barb, I checked out the freemedicineprogram.com. It doesn't cover Alex's med, Concerta. I checked the other one out, but I'll have to go back later to read more about it.

Thanks again for your help, Roxanne

Check around and see if there is a reduced price clinic which would base your office visit on your family income. Now for the best part! There are programs run by the pharmeceutical companies where you can get free or low cost meds. I have been told that they have a comfortably high income level for qualifying  also.

There are a couple of links to places where you can apply for free meds.

We moved to FL back in June of this year. It took me awhile to find a job that was worth the pay; you know daycare and gas (at the time) are expensive. I finally found a job shortly after school started. I reviewed the pamplets for the insurance that the temporary agency provided because I couldn't afford any of the individual insurance plans. I thought that it would be the best way to go at the time. I signed up and started paying the premiums out of each week's check. Well, this week I needed to get my daugther to the doctor for a refill on her medication. I had exhaulted my resources with her old doctor and it was time for her 3 month check-up anyway. I found a doctor on the physician list provided and made an appt. The office manager called back and asked if I payed the 0 deductible required before a doctor visit. I was shocked. I didn't get that from the papers I had. I called the insurance company to confirm and found out it was true. I cancelled the insurance at once. The doctor visit without insurance was only .00. I thought that since she was a new patient that I could weasle my way with getting her medicine refilled as well, even though I knew that nothing was covered for 12 months because of pre-existing conditions. But after finding out about the deductible I felt it was useless to pay for something that wouldn't cover anything for her to begin with.

I went online and found Florida Kids and printed off the forms to fill out. While reading the information about qualifying I found out that if insurance was voluntarily terminated within the past six months that the child would not be accepted in the program. Then I got angry. I thought because I cancelled something that wasn't going to accommodate my daugther's needs to begin with now she has to be punished through the state as well. So the story ends with my daughter not being covered, paying .00 every three months for check-ups and 6 a month for her one VERY needed medicine, Concerta. She can't function at school without it and I wouldn't do that to the teacher. But I have stuggled from the beginning of the move to do right by my family. I have stood by and suffered so my husband could attend a 15 month program for Motorcycle Mechanics. But I'm at my wits end. I could care less at this point about my health, but I can't sit by and watch my daughter be shoved to the curb in this rat race of insurance crap.

Because I had to get my daughter's medicine and pay for an unexpected dr. visit I now can't pay for my utility bill. I wonder sometimes if this will ever end. Every since we have moved to FL, we have had one brick wall after another stopping us from doing the right things. It's not just affecting my husband and I; it's effecting my daughter now too. I want to pay my bills and get the help for my daughter.

Does anyone has any suggestions to help with the doctor bills and medicines? I want to get back to a somewhat normal life like we had before the move.

Thanks!!
