Last fall I began a new job in which the insurance wouldn't go into effect for 4 months. I knew my son needed his medicine so I discussed it with his pediatrician (she prescribed his Ritalin LA). She had her nurse call the pharmacy rep that distributes the Ritalin LA and he had an application that we could use to apply for free meds (just the Ritalin LA). The doctor had to complete and sign a portion of the application and write a new prescription- we had to submit proof of income and write a brief statement as to why we needed the assistance. We only had to pay out of pocket once before receiving a letter saying that they would provide his Ritalin LA gratis for up to a full year. They sent a presciption card that would only work for the Ritalin and the only requirement was that if he became insured we had to notify and it would cancel. Perhaps other companies have this same kind of program. It was a blessing for us for three whole months! Good Luck!!
I was just switched form concerta to adderall and gave my leftovers to the doc

Talk to the pharmacists in your area. It requires a bit of leg work but I've found that prices for meds differ greatly at different pharmacies. When you ask for prices make sure you ask if there is a different price for people without insurance. I was able to get more money knocked off the meds just because I asked this and did some searching around my neighborhood for the best rates. Thanks Barb, I checked out the freemedicineprogram.com. It doesn't cover Alex's med, Concerta. I checked the other one out, but I'll have to go back later to read more about it.
Thanks again for your help, Roxanne
Check around and see if there is a reduced price clinic which would base your office visit on your family income. Now for the best part! There are programs run by the pharmeceutical companies where you can get free or low cost meds. I have been told that they have a comfortably high income level for qualifying also.

There are a couple of links to places where you can apply for free meds.
We moved to FL back in June of this year. It took me awhile to find a job that was worth the pay; you know daycare and gas (at the time) are expensive. I finally found a job shortly after school started. I reviewed the pamplets for the insurance that the temporary agency provided because I couldn't afford any of the individual insurance plans. I thought that it would be the best way to go at the time. I signed up and started paying the premiums out of each week's check. Well, this week I needed to get my daugther to the doctor for a refill on her medication. I had exhaulted my resources with her old doctor and it was time for her 3 month check-up anyway. I found a doctor on the physician list provided and made an appt. The office manager called back and asked if I payed the 0 deductible required before a doctor visit. I was shocked.
I didn't get
that from the papers I had. I called the insurance company to confirm
and found out it was true. I cancelled the insurance at once. The
doctor visit without insurance was only .00. I thought that since
she was a new patient that I could weasle my way with getting her
medicine refilled as well, even though I knew that nothing was covered
for 12 months because of pre-existing conditions. But after finding out
about the deductible I felt it was useless to pay for something that
wouldn't cover anything for her to begin with.
