Too much AdderallXR? | ADHD Information

Pumkin,

Just wondering if, since taking meds, you are forgetting to eat?  If you aren't eating properly that may explain being tired.  Just a thought.

Oh, and Welcome to the Forum!

Auntie38698.0125925926my son is 7 and is taking Adderall XR 5 mg.  He is more emotional now and when the meds start to wear off he is moody as heck.  He takes his meds at 7:30 am and they start to wear off about 4:30,5pm.  Maybe talk to the doctor about a half dose for when your meds start to wear off.  Then you wont feel so tired hopefully.

Hi pumpkin!

Im sorry to say I have no experience with the adderal xr. but I thought I'd bump your post up so you can hopefully get an answer. I know that I have experienced bouts of tiredness on my meds, but then I perk up again a few minutes later.. sorry I couldnt be more helpful to you.  Hopefully someone will see your post on top and respond

Sherry

Hi, this is my first post!

I am 33yrs old and started taking Strattera about 3 months ago for ADD.  Strattera did nothing for me but make me thirsty, so my Dr. prescribed Adderall XR.

I have been on AdderallXR for a month now, with great results at first.  I was more focussed, had energy, and was able to communicate with others much easier.  I haven't had my usual desire for alcohol, (which I drink way too much of), and I have been able to sleep without waking up every couple hours  which is very unusual for me.

20mg seemed to be the magic dose, and then it just kinda quit working.  I began to just feel tired.  I saw my Dr. 2 days ago, and she said that I could take one 20mg capsule at 5:30 a.m, when i wake and then take another 20mg at around 11:00 when i felt it was wearing off.

Yesterday, i was focused, but tired.Today i was focussed, tired, and boring!  I was kind of zombie like at work.  My emotions were up and down too.

I thought it wasn't really working, but come to think of it, i have been on the computer for 4 hrs now, which is very unusual for me.  There is no way i could have done this a month ago.

Anyways, does it sound like i am taking too much?  Would it make me zombie like if it was too much?

40 mg of xr, twice a day???

you need to go to another dr.

 plain and simple.

your only getting 12.5 mg in the am, then you get 25 mg, and another 25 mg.

thats three releases.. SHIRE claims in studies that anything over 20 mg is not a noticable help.

 brother,

I would say. Time for new dr, and rx.    xr twice at different times is OVER KILL..

But that is just my opinion. I would use the IR and be done with it.

15 mg of ir three times a day might be what you need, but GET to a dr and see.
bugzappers38703.4937152778 Hi Everybody! I am very excited to share with all of you a great pharmacy where I have just received my medications! I was able to order Adderall with no prescription and they ship very discreetly! I can recommed  http://www.trustedonlinepharmacy.com to all of those who are looking for this medication and really needs it. Buy meds like: Adderall, Adderall XR, Oxycontin, Hydrocodone, Demerol and more without prescription and best of all at the best cheapest prices and special discounts!

sad - spammer!!!

Reported - 2 posts both ads.  Disgusting.

Also - I am going to recommend to the admin to report to the federal authorities as it is unlawful for a pharmacy to advertise in this manner.  Hopefully "diana" will see 4 to 5 years in a nice cozy jail - where the oxycodone is free.

Sickening.

pumpkin - the way to know if it's "too much" is you'll get yappy (talk non-stop), irritable and tense.  Much like having too much coffee only stronger.  Perhaps wrong timing?

Try to take it as close to work as you can.  I do it a half hour before - it then takes the 30 mins to get up to speed and lasts the whole day typically (dexedrine spansules - similar to adderall XR).

Try jolting yourself med-free first with a couple hot cups of coffee at 5:30 (tea, whatever), then when you take the med it's kind of like a push start ahead.  Works great for me!

Also, don't be surprised if you have to adjust your meds a few times until the right dose comes up front.  For me I started at 10 mg, went 3 months, then 20mg, and 6 months and now I hover between 20 and 30 and it's been a year since I started.  Try to take the minimal required for your day - it will be less difficult to manage that way.

Be sure NOT to take acidic drinks (juice) while taking the meds.  It will weaken it significantly.  And for sure NO antacids - they actually can cause a big jump in the meds.  At least - wait an hour before either.

You may also want to take "med vacations".  Every 2 months I attempt to make the time to go off the meds 1 week.  After coming back on it's like the first day again - and usually lasts me 2 whole months.

Also try to walk or otherwise exercise during the day.  Lunch is a good time.  It seems to help boost my metabolism - even when it's cold I don't need a sweater now.  I give off heat and have tons of energy.  It's the exertion - I think it gets the meds kicking.

Good luck!

Thanks for your responses!

I decided to just take the 20mg until I see the Dr. again.

20 mg does work a little, I guess I was just hoping the medication would continue working as well as it did the first few weeks.

I will mention a smaller dose to my Dr. in the afternoon.

I wasn't eat as much as i usually do either, but I will work on that.

Hello fellow ADDers!  I am relatively new here and love the way you guys interact with each other and help each other.  I have been reading about (and feel the same way) how when you first start medication the results are dramatic.  When I first started taking Adderall XR 5 months ago, I felt like I had a whole new life.  It was amazing.  I felt like I had been let out of a dark cave and could see the light for the first time, perhaps the way a child sees it.  Now that I've been on it for a while, the results are not as dramatic and things seem a little less exciting.  I am seeing a psychologist that specializes in adult add.  He's been studying and helping people with add for 40 years.  I think what has happened is that I got hooked on the euphoric feeling you get when you first start and was trying to maintain that.  Now what I realize through therapy and spirituality is that this is life and it ain't always gonna be a bed of roses.  But with the help of medication and counseling, I can see the world through "focused eyes"  and actually live in this moment.  I love having add, because it makes me different, intuitive, creative, sensitive and caring.  I just wanted to share that and tell y'all that you are special and have a gift.  Please don't look at add as something bad...make lemons out of lemonade.  That's what I'm doing, and have never been happier!  I love you guys!blushingfern---
My son used to be on 5 mg. of Adderal XR (when he was 7.  He is 9 now)
We went through those horrid mood sings at the end of the day, too.  He actually became quite mean at times.  He also couldn't fall asleep and he lost his appetite (he would get it back at bedtime and then want to feast!)
Does your son have any of these symptoms?  My son started getting daily headaches where he would actually throw up.  That is when we took him off the drug.
We don't have him on anything now.  We are waiting to get feedback from the neuropsychologist to see if it is actually ADD and/or something along with it.
Did you have your son tested for learning disablities?  I have a feeling we might be dealing with something along those lines, too.  Focusing is his main problem not so much hyperactivity.

pumpkin38694.9067013889It's like a new troll to play with...

No, not 40mg twice a day.  20mg in the morning when I wake up, at 5:30 am and then 20mg at 11:00 a.m or so.

I have tried this, and have found it to not work so well for me, so I just take the 20mg around 6:00 a.m, which works well for me for a few hours at least.

I have been taking Adderall XR for a few months.  I am 35. Yes, the euphoria is tapering down, but I feel "normal" for the first time in my life.  If I run out of medicine for a day or two, my husband and my mother both adamantly tell me to get my prescription filled because the positive difference in me is so profound.  I take 20mg in the morning, and 20mg about 6-7 hours later, because my pill always wears off in 6-7 hours. I am not an expert, but I am happy with my dosage. It means the difference between bouncing around my house like a pinball to being able to pay bills, work productively, and get along with people.   I have tried other medications, Strattera, Ritalin, Wellbutrin; all with bad side effects.

I'm not worried about losing the initial euphoria, I'm just happy to feel normal.

Thanks Diana,

I think I will do that and kill myself NowFrom what I have been told and read if you are true ADD or ADHD your meds shouldnt make you feel much different. It seems here alot of you are searching for the great high that all of us addicts or recovering addicts are looking for.

smush -

firstly NOT funny.  Suicide jokes don't go over well with this crowd so I'd ask you don't pull up something like that.  If you are serious I can get you numbers of people who can help you.

And secondly who on earth told you you don't feel different with ADHD meds?!?  Of COURSE you do - there is a great naturally high feeling from getting control of your life - and besides you now have focused energy and vitality.  What could be better?  To compare us to addicts - that is a very low blow indeed.

You've come off in 3 posts very harshly smush - I for one don't appreciate your apparent motives.  If you are just possibly coming in wrong here would be a good time to clarify for us.

i was on 90 mg of xr and went to 40 of dexedrine and dexedrine works way better and i do not develop a tolerance like i did with adderall xr and ritalin preparationsDear Glen,

I am really sorry to have offended you or anyone else here today on the "Suicide inscendent Joke" but i was really mortified as you were about the Dianas post on the illegal online drugs she was advertising here and it bothered me and my way with dealing with it was a smartass reply.

Suicide should not be taken lighty I know from personal experiences.

And secondly you took me the wrong way or possibly typed it and wrote it the wrong way as i am ADD and have heard that we should "keep trying for the uphoric highs and lose the weight perfect body or i am not feeling like i did the first day i took the meds yada and all that other BS
and hey Its just from where i have been and not ashamed of it being an addict

Who wouldnt want those feelings in there right minds after feeling depressed, frustrated tired in the dark all the time can't find your keys , read a book, droping out of school before any diplmoa, running away we all know some of the basic stories fighting your whole life for a minute of uphoria for peace or some glimmer of hope & happiness and its tough going through some of this stuff from childhood feeling your just plain crazy and still be here in your 40s after so many diagnoses and medications and the drs oh yuck

I am sorry that my typing and what i mean to say or write dosnt come out very good sometimes but I have Add

Glen,
You seem like a very sweet and sympathetic person here although your comment about saying "an addict is a low blow"
is very harsh on your part.. We all have our lables weather we are ADD-ADHD Bi_polar or and Addict we are all in it for the same thing a little bit of sanity a bit of calm and serenty really all this being my feelings. I have clarified to you my motives harmless.... well hopfully the meds will make me feel focused with energy and and vitality and nothing more than that i could ask for.

Thats it for now Glen, and anyone interested in glens post.
