Tenex anyones dc on it? does it work?Tenex's primary use (that is, when not used for treating ADHD) is to *lower* blood pressure, so it's strange that your doctor warned it could raise it. I think HollyB misspoke or misunderstood. The risk with sudden increase in blood pressure is if you suddenly stop the med (a rebound effect). My daughter's doctor said when and if we stop, to wean her off in 1/2mg increments every few days. She is on 1mg twice a day so we would go to 1/2mg twice a day and then stop. We may go up to 2mg a couple times a day, but first we need to tritate up the concerta. I know I'm really late adding on here, but... My daughter was on Tenex for all of three days. She became what I'm refering to as a "defiant zombie". When she wasn't lying on the couch staring at the walls, she was angry & yelling at me, which was something she had never done before! No way was I going to allow her to continue feeling & acting like that. Tenex is the sixth med we've tried Im interested in the data for the clinical trials that Shire did to support there NDA (new drug application-application to sell a new drug) for a long acting guanfacine for ADHD. They are starting a new trial using the guanfacine in ADHD+ODD. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=50486 smdaa, Lillian's son is on Tenex. You might want to PM her. My son was on it for about 3 months. We didn't really notice much of an improvement. Hello! As SmallMom stated, my son is on Tenex. He's twelve and has been dxed with ADHD/Anxiety. We decided to use Tenex because he needed a mild tranquilizer, one that was not addictive. He did not do well on tradtional ADHD meds (Adderall, Concerta, Straterra, and two different types of Ritalin). Tenex has worked wonders for him. Mind you, it has not done anything for his insomnia, but it has all but eliminated his twitching, which is one of the major reasons we put him on it. Hello, My son has been on Adderall Xr 10 since last December. and at first it was working great. Now it is not working well and we have tried Ritalin, Wellbutrin and Adderall XR 15 and Adderall XR 20 mg. My son is ADHD combined type and is also Autistic (High functing). This year in second grade things started out great but has been bad lately. Lots of talking, outburst, defient behaivor, lying, more hyper and his attiitude has changed (he seems more grumpy, defensive, more angry and just not himself). His doc wants to try Tenex over Christmas break. I am kindof leary of how its going to work. I don't know much about Tenex but I do see how it is a blood pressure lowering med. Please let me know if your dc has tried it or is currently on it. Does it work right away or does it take a while to work? I wish we could find something that would work well and continue to work. Thanks for reading this - I am just frustrated. What happened to change things so quickly. Diane
mtbikemom........... Just curious......is your daughter on any other medication in addition to the Tenex? My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety about a year and a half ago at age 6. We tried all the stimulants and a number of antidepressants with very negative effect. Tenex has been great.....my understanding is that in children it does not have the BP effects that it has in adults. She's been on it nearly a year and her BP is always normal when we get it check with the psychiatrist and her pediatrician. She takes 1 mg. in a.m....half at noon (at school) and another 1 mg. with dinner. It definitely helps her contain herself and she has had no behavior issues at school at all this year....She plays soccer, runs around, etc....no ill effects and sleeps fine at night. It also hasn't negatively impacted her appetite. It seems a good choice if the traditional stims aren't not effective....everyone's chemistry is different. Our peds neurologist said that these are more rare side effects, but nevertheless they are side effects. He improved as soon as we discontinued the medication. LJWH-fyi, my daughter isn't on any other meds at the moment.... |
