ADD RELAPSES?? | ADHD Information

ever go through a really good few months, kicking butt taking care of things, just being a productive medicated ADDer, then just fall apart - w/o breaking your routine or change of meds. I DO then somehow i get back into the groove.

Definitely. I am great for a month or two then all of a sudden I just become really ADD ish again. Why? At the moment I am being good. Making conversation with people on the phone a lot more than normal, wrapping presents, even buying presents in advance. I know this wont last soon I will be in a mess! Why does this happen?  I can relate, cuz I'm the same way.  I wonder if that's when we need to take a medication vacation.  Maybe we're habituating to the med.  Have you ever tried a break from your meds?  I have and hated it.  I tried it for a weekend and that was the longest weekend ever!  I couldn't wait until Monday.  One thing my doc does is give me 2 scripts...one for 2 weeks of Adderall XR and one for Focalin XR.  He says to switch them up now and then so I don't habituate to one or the other.  Focalin is a Ritalin product, so it's a different chemical than Adderall.  I've done it a few times.  I don't like the Focalin as well, but when I go back to the Adderall, it's always better.  Kinda like the first time you took it...when everything was wonderful!  Boy, I miss that....that first 2 weeks on Adderall....like you're invincible!

How often do relapses occur when on medication, I mean in general?

For me, it's about every other month. My daughter (21 y.o.) recently started Adderall but her doc told her only to take it "when needed" for studying. So now that she is home for Christmas break she is totally off it. I am hearing varying opinions about it on this board...
