I didn't know until I was 26. I was just as shocked. Also, some of the symptoms I have - I didn't clue in that it was to do with having ADD. This I JUST learned recently and I'm 29.
If you're looking for suggestions, first off I'd recommend you looking at your diet. It has a huge impact for some and can help elliviate some of the impulsive and hyperness this disorder brings on.
Next, get yourself some omega oils. It's worked great for some. Try it out. It's healthy for everyone so it's no going to harm you and it doesn't have any side effects.
Lastly, if these two fail, research as much as you can and talk with your doctor if you're insisting on trying out the meds. It may not be necessary to take this step.
I didn't know until I was 41.
Get the books Driven to Distraction and Delivered from Distraction
by Edward M. Hallowell. These will help you understand
yourself from a positive view. Many people who have
ADHD have been very successful. You can be too.
Best of luck.
Hey! Great!!!
They found out about your gifts and abilities early in your productive life!!!
I didn't find out until I was 40, and had gone broke and broke a few people first...
It sure made a lot of sense when I finally was told. I coulda done sooooo much more had I known earlier!!!
I'm still doing the best with it I can, though. The abilities that come
with the weakenesses far outweigh the bad once you figure out how to
harness them.
Even to do the things normals want you to do, especially if you learn
what it is you want to do... Find your strenghts, and focus on those.
For your weaknesses, find a partner or a team to handle those. Research
ADHD before you launch into life. Be very careful with relationships,
those seem to be the most fragile.
And READ those books cynthia mentions, and ask Annigostini a/b the crawling ADHDer book. They're all revolutionary.
Chin up, our friend, you are one of us. And you are part of a special family. Welcome to the family!!!
Your bro,
Davido
I didn'y know I had ADD until I was 40. I was shocked too, but it explained a lot of things. Now I'm glad I know. I read a lot about it. You can too.How old are you? Are you an adult now? That will have a lot of influence over what advice we give you.
You haven't suddenly come down with something horrid. You have always had this. Now you know why you are the way you are and can start taking steps to learn to control it.
