Usually dexedrine salts lose the appetite suppressant ability within a month. Perhaps you are on too high a dose? Typically after a short while of getting used to the meds you get the appetite back big time.
How is your physical exertion? Do you exercise regularly? I find it sweats off a lot of the dexedrine and leaves me feeling ravenous - but still the weight stays stable. The more I work the better the meds feel too. Very good for me either way.
When I started the meds (first month or so) I had to regimen my meals and tell myself I MUST eat! If you are feeling nauseous it's possible your stomach is sensitive from not eating for so long. Try lots of water to get your stomach used to weight on its nerves. Do whatever it takes to get back in the swing!
Good luck for sure.
I say eat then take the stimulant. Drink protein shakes also. Eat the diet like South beach. Control allergies. These are all things we do here which helps our son a lot.Our is also hypo thyroid also though. This also.I have to remember to eat too. Usually when I smell the food it sparks my apetite. I also have always been naturally thin with a small bone structure. So I have to especially make sure I get enough calcium (prime target for austioperosis!) (sp?). I can tend to start getting too thin and thats when I start making the protein smoothies.
I freeze lots of fruits in zip-lock baggies in the summer when they're in season. I blend the frozen fruit with vanilla yoguert and apple juice (any kind of juice) The frozen fruit makes it thick. Sometimes I add wheat germ or dry oat meal, green powder, honey (if using plain yoguert) , and always protein powder. You can be creative .
I also make sure I lift weights on a regular basis as to not loose muscle mass, plus it helps strengthen your bones.
I'm sure this has been discussed plenty on this forum, but I wanted to see if y'all have this same problem. I've been on Adderall XR 15 for 5 months. I have lost so much weight that people are starting to ask if I'm anorexic. I was already thin but now am really thin....5'7" and weigh 109. It's really strange, but the ONLY way I know to eat is by watching the clock. I have ABSOLUTELY no appetite ever! My doctor told me if I lose one more pound he's taking me off the medicine. So I gotta do something. I went and bought some protein shakes and bars, but the thought of eating makes me nauseated. I love what Adderall does for my mind, but it's hurting my body. Everyone says that appetite comes back, but mine hasn't. Any suggestions?

Aww, man!! Can I have your problem?? I really was hoping I would have some appetite supression..and I did for about a week, then that very desirable ( for me) side effect went away. While I did have that effect, I did drink a lot of smoothies made with skim milk, strawberries and a scoop of soy protien powder..oh and also a teaspon of vanilla and a little extra sweetener. I couldnt eat dinner for a while because it would make me nauseous, so I would drink a smoothie.. for some reason, I could do that without a problem. Good luck and hope you can gain some weight.. ( geez, I never thought I would be saying that to a female !!)
My doctor is trying everything possible to keep me off meds cos I'm also naturally thin and don'y really have a good appetite anyway. I deal with this by grazing all day long like a cow
I'll eat rice crackers with dip, get bored with that then pick at left over meat from dinner etc. Once you get going you might find your appetite growing cos you're not forcing yourself to sit down to a plate full of food you dont really want.
Hope that might be of some use to you.
Angela,
I find shakes helpful too - although mine are not as healthy as kibbles'. I use whole milk, ice cream, and peanut butter and blend them into a shake...lots of fat and calories, and the sweet helps stimulate my appetite a little...this may help in the short-term to keep your weight up. Good luck to you.

Angela, I too have a supressed appetite. Discussed with doc and it is normal. I take the adderall xr, and it seems when I first started I physically could not eat a thing, and just was plain not hungry. Here is what I tried.....I make sure to eat SOMETHING 3 times a day, even if it was yogurt or a granola bar, which didn't upset my stomach. Even if I wasn't hungry, if it was lunch time, I would make sure to grab a container of yogurt to make sure I was eating. I also layed off the caffeine a bit, since this seemed to upset my stomach even more, and drink lots of water. I slowly am able to eat more each day, even if it is just a bit of this and that at dinner. Good Luck!!
much luv

I just started Concerta, so not sure if this is going to be a side affect or not. I've been on it a week now, and have noticed a slight decline in appetite. However, I am a major stress eater, and since I started the meds I feel very much relaxed and not so anxious. So it could just be that. But my daughter takes Adderall and she doesn't have a very good appetite. She will eat three meals a day, but could stand to eat more. As a solution we also give her shakes. Pedia shakes. It hasn't helped her gain any weight but she certainly gets the nutrition. I have also noticed, and not sure if there is a connection, that my daughter with ADHD makes much better food choices than my non ADD children. She eats very healthy foods when given the choice. Also you might try getting a digital watch that has an alarm that you can set for every couple of hours and have snacks every time the alarm goes off.
