New here/Med Question | ADHD Information

Hi Everyone,

I am new here and have a question about meds.  I was diagnosed when I was 20 Im not 30.  Ive been on Rittalin and Concera.  The Dr who diagnosed me retired. I have been getting my meds from my family Dr.   A previous family Dr switched me to Strattera a year ago. I thought it was working untill I came here and have been reading all of the negative things about it.  I do seem to be falling apart latley.

I have two questions.  First is it a good idea to have my family Dr prescribe my meds or should I find another Dr? I co-worker as already given me a name.

Second.  What is the real deal on Strattera?  I meen is really the best thing or not.  Im so confussed.

Ive been dealing with this for long.  I just want to get my act together and am having such a hard time.

Thanks for all of your help.

Find a good Psych.  They will be able to help you find what works best for you.  I took Strattera for months and loved it.  I had great "side" effects, Some which the doctor didn't care for, so, I was switched to Adderall + Welbutrin .  I was surprised at the world of difference it made.  Everybody's chemistry is different.  One million people may have negative things to say about any med, but what is important, is how it works for you.  I read all of the nausua, vomiting, chills, blah, blah, blah - I did not experience any of those things.  It did make me sleepy, but I liked that.

Good luck -
It works for some and not others. This is true with any medacine. When our son took it we only gave after a ful meal. His worse behavior is why we stopped it. He liked at night better cause he said he had less effects then. If tryed then they usually happen while a sleep. The sleepyness was also a issue with him also. He would sleep 4 hrs in the afternoon. He claims it didnot last long enough in him. This is  suppose to be a 24 hr. med. His dad refuses letting do any other ones. I can't over ride this cause he is the provider in this family. He will take someone to court who forces the issue he says. Rn Strattera was OK for me for a very short time then lost all effectiveness.

Ritalin is the stuff for me, but your milage may vary.
I found out I was allegric to strattera the hard way. I am covered in hives, yuck.  Switching to wellbutrin xl.  My doctor said that my reaction was rare, but does happen.  Other side effects were cotton mouth, chills, etc. It was working nicely for my head, but the itching, that damn itching... When I had first been prescribed a med, my doctor prescribed Staterra.   She lied to me and said that some people feel the effects at two days.  Please.  I went back and told her in a nice way that I don't appreciate the lieing and give me something that would work in 20 minutes.  Well, she put me on Ritalin.  I absolutely loved it.  Waiting on a way to pay for it, I am on Strattera currently.  It is okay, it is calmed me, but my focus could use more work.  I'm hoping I could take both once I fill my Ritalin prescription.  But otherwise, Ritalin is the bomb for me.  Good luck.
