It sure sounds to me as if your son has more going on that ADHD, both in the symptoms you describe and in the fact that none of the meds you've tried work.  If I remember correctly, doesn't your older son have bipolar disorder?  These disorders tend to run in families so I would encourage you to have your younger son evaluated by a good child psychiatrist.

NO THIS IS THE ONLY CHILD I HAVE NOW these are the kind of things we have come across with every dr we have been to we have been to all kinds i get so discourged my child does not sleep without the help of meds he bites his finger nail chews his shirts up and sippie cup the hard plastic ones he is failong in kindergarten he is only 5 the school calls me all the time he made a u in conduct

I'm sorry -- I have you confused with another poster.  I still stand by my original advice -- it sounds to me as your son is dealing with more than ADHD.  I encourage you to have him evaluated by a board-certified child psychiatrist who has experience treating children with mood disorders.

I really would like to know what symptoms a five year old has that one would put threw so med changes..  The kid is growing up and some changes in behavior are normal.  Maybe its the meds or he has some other disorder that has not be diagnosed.  I will pray for your son,,

Children and adults who are starting ADHD medications are put through a trial of medications because the response to the medication is all individual. Changes in behavior are normal as the child grows but normal behaviors in a child dont drive a parent into a doctors office nor are normal behaviors even diagnosible. Parents instinctively know when their childs behaviors are above and beyond the norm. Carolynmac4....because your child has not responded positively to ADHD medication, either your child was misdiagnosed with ADHD or as mentioned in this thread, there has to be something more going on. If the doctor is now advising you to put your child on methylin liquid which he already didnt respond to in pill form, clearly he has no knowledge about ADHD medications and I also strongly advise you to get another opinion by a psychiatrist or a neuropsycholgist.[QUOTE=nicola]

does antone know anything about methylin liquid i have a 5 year old that has been on ritlin, focalin, stratta, adderal, concerta, clonidine in which no of these worked now he has been put on methylin starting tomorrow i don't know anything about this one thanks for your advice

Jfla is right -- methylin is basically the liquid form of methylphenidate, the ingredient found in Ritalin.  Concerta is long-acting (12 hours) Ritalin, and Focalin is a refined version of Ritalin that is supposed to cause fewer side effects than regular Ritalin.

So I, too, wonder why your doctor would try it if the others didn't work.  What are your son's symtpoms?  And what happens when he takes ADHD meds?

The description of methylin which I read sounded like it is basically methylphenidate the same thing in Ritalin, Focalin, and Concerta.

I wonder why the doc would try that if the others didn't work. I'm curious who diagnosed your child and what the diagnosis is.

Perhaps someone else has some experience with it. A lot of info on methylin is also available online.
