Bman - you are falling into a classic male ADHD behavior - blame all but yourself. I have personally been on dexedrine for a year - never once had even an overly angry day! So very many here take adderall every single day and no incidents like that.
I can't help but feel bad that you have gone through a very bad time like you describe but think carefully about the true roots of why?
Most likely you still have the remnants of a messed-up teen life of ADHD where your parents haven't known what the hell to do. You took the adderall expecting it to clear up everything overnight and when it hasn't you've been angry. At 17, 18 I would have as well. That's why therapy is so important - the meds help to control the urges (if YOU want it to) but don't just stop them.
Well hope you find your path. But do try and look honestly at the whys of it all. And remember - when you point in accusation at someone/thing, there are 3 fingers pointing right back at you.
Hello GReat drug... if you are AdHd.. give it a try. It worksbman3038715.9165277778
I think you aren't telling the whole story. If it was so wonderful for a while did you notice anything different preceding the fist fight? You can't just come here and tell people Adderall is bad without giving us more than what you did to go on. There may be many reasons why you are a so-called train wreck. For example, if you became violent your doc may not have dx'd you correctly. Is it possible you are bipolar? Did you drink or do another drug with your meds? Did your friend say something or do something that for once in your life you compreheded wasn't nice? (No, not an excuse for violence) Don't just write off a med or come tell people here because you had a bad experience. You know darn well this isn't fair when so many people are helped by this medication with no such incidents as you had.
I would suggest the fair thing for you to do is tell us everything preceding the fist fight.
I took Adderall for about a year and a half. I had no problems like the ones you had. I even went off cold turkey with no side effects that bothered me.
I'm not on it now, but I don't think that comparing it to cocaine is very logical. Cocaine is a street drug that no one is monitoring and people abuse to get the high.
My doctor told me that people with ADD or ADHD will have a different reaction to cocaine from the streets. That was one of the questions he asked me - if I ever had used cocaine. He asks that question because people with ADD and ADHD will find that cocaine does not give them the high that they get from other illegal drugs. People with ADD and ADHD don't choose cocaine to get high with. It calms them down.
A relative of mine who was once on drugs and thinks he has ADHD said that it was true. Cocaine never did much for him. He chooses alcohol. He is probably self medicating.
So, I don't think your post is a fair one for most people that use the drug Adderal in the prescribed manner.
Perhaps it didn't work for you and you had bad reactions, but you shouldn't believe that everyone will be the same.
That is why it is so important to talk to your doctor about any and all drugs you are taking.
Good luck to you.
you know what glenn, you are absolutely right.... It IS a good drug, but so many people are blameing everything on it that its almost like Im starting to blame the drug too. I was upset about my girlfriend and down or depressed last year and if I was on it then, im sure it would have been blamed.. you know?bman - you seriously NEED to chat with a pro. That would make such a BIG difference in your outlook. Honestly - do you think I'm as chipper as I usually am by accident??!?? LOL!!
Honestly - the meds are like a car. You can get where you want to go in it - but if you don't know how to drive all you are going to get is into an accident. You need the ability to say "woah - now do I do what I normally would do - or do I try to handle the situation as if my ADHD was under MY control?". You stop - look both ways and make good decisions.
If you check out the spouse part of the forum - the biggest complaint is the excuses we with ADHD make. It's the pill, our spouse - anything we can point at as being fault rather than say that the ADHD flavors how we do it but we are at the helm.
Talk to someone. You should do it soon - councillor, therapist whatever.
You can do fine - you just need to sort out the ADHD from the you.
if you check the ADVICE post, it turned out i was indeed depressed NOT DUE TO ADDERALL. Adderall was actually holding me together nad when it wore off.. i was a mess.. this is why it was blamed.. so it actually was helping.. it wasnt the cause.... im on zoloft now and it was like a light switched on .. IM ME AGAIN!!!
