6 year old on adderall | ADHD Information

He might need a stronger dose. Stimulants dosing is trial and error since it doesn't go by age and weight like a lot of other medications do. They usually start slow and work up as needed.

Hello, I hope someone else has had this experience and can suggest something!!

My son has ADHD to the extreme in every symptom.  You look at the symptoms of ADHD in children, he's got every single one to the highest degree.

His doctor put him on adderall and suddenly he was a new kid.  He was calmer, focused and his grades shot up and even got an A- in CONDUCT!!!

But lately it seems I see the old Brian back again.  His teachers say he's still fine in school, but at home he is back to his old self.  Hyped out of his mind, fresh as can be (lack of impulse control) and is just unbearable to be around.  It makes me cry because he is just so out of hand that NO ONE can stand being around him.

We went to Florida and gave him a break from his medicine for a week.  HELL.  When we came back I put him back on it (15 mg of the adderall XR) and for a solid week he was back to that precious child I love so much.  But then after the 7th day, he seems to be back to the unbearable Brian again.

Why would this be?  How come it works for the first week so well and then it seems to just stop?  15mg is pretty significant, isn't it, for a 6 year old?  He's a big boy, too.  80 pounds.

Please help me.  I want my Brian back.
