My doctor just put me on 18mg concerta and 10 mg fast acting ritalin in morning.. I was wondering if this will have any affect on the fog I have been in or is a really low dose. And is concerta a good one to try.............
Concerta was WONDERFUL for me! I felt focused and productive for a good 11 hours. the only side effect I had was that I had to find a way to wind down at night in order to sleep. Im on metadate CD now because insurance would not pay for the concerta.. same meds different delivery system. The concerta was markedly superior -- no up and downs.
hope this helps.

I am curious why the fast acting ritalin in addition to long acting concerta?18 is good to start with, give it a couple of weeks then if you are still having problems with ADD symptoms more than what you can handle.. then ask for an increase.. its easier to increase than it is to decrease.. this is personal experience of course, not a pro in this
I felt all three releases "kick in" for me, I would have thought that 36mg would have been a bit overwhelming... I was very new to this type of medicine and the first time I got that head rush it unnerved me a bit.. I wasnt sure I would be able to teach.. but it subsided and I got a GREAT sense of calmness..
After my body adjusted, I found that I actually did need to bump it up, but if I had done it all at once, I don't think I would have been able to handle it.
Now I dont even realize it is in my system.. I just seem to get my work done and have tons better classroom management..

oh, I wanted to add that I had done some research on this med when I was on it and found that blood concentrations of it is highest after the second dose.. I am curious if that extra kick of ritlian in the am will give you a more even feel during the first 8 hours.
Also, I had no rebound on the 18, but boy howdy did I ever rebound on the 36!!

To Kibbles..... you mentioned in a response that "you felt all three doses kick in" . Are you talking about Concerta? The reason I ask is that Concerta does not release its medicine in 3 seperate doses .... but releases small amounts continuously over a 12 hour period.... Please clarify. Thx.My body must be wierd or something, because I actually "felt" each release of the concerta. For me, it was 3 seperate releases approxamately every 4 hours. I would get a bit of a head rush.. that is why I said that I felt it kick in.
I don't believe it is a continuous release. The metadate CD, and ritilan LA, are more of a continuous release because of the beads that release steadily in the system.
The concerta has a different system where the medication is actually pushed out of the pill with one immediate release then there are two chambers that get released through osmotic pressure -- I know that each release is supposed to be at an even rate, it just wasnt for me. It is quite possible that I metabolized the drug too quickly for the release mechanism and that is why I felt it when a new amount was released in my system. I don't know. i might just be very sensitive the methylphenidate too. who knows?
It is something that went away over time. I didnt feel it kick in after awhile and didnt really notice it in my system, just felt normal and focused instead of in a fog.

( edited for better clarification)
kibbles00238717.2836689815I just started on 18mg of Concerta last week and am experiencing the same "releasing" into my body. I notice that i get lightheaded and extremely fidgity during these 5-10 min. periods, then i go back to normal.wow, thanks for posting that emily.. maybe it wasnt so wierd for me to experience that after all.
