Professional organizers? | ADHD Information

Anyone ever use one? If so, what would I expect from one?My friend had one.  Expect to be pressured to get rid of a lot of stuff.  Expect to work hard sorting with direction from the organizer.  Expect that some organizers frown if you don't have a budget to work with (To purchase new organizaitional products) and some (rare) will work with what you have around the house - no budget needed.

I brought one into my law office.  We 3 worked to differing degrees carrying out her marching orders.

Step one, throw out stuff you don't use - you know that item you think you may have a use for someday

Step two, organize the work you have according to deadlines taking into account the time it will take to COMPLETE the task -

3 don't just move stuff around, pickit up and don't put it down unitl you're through with it.  (When the mail comes throw out the junk)

4 Use a day planner that includes a prioritaized to do list and at the end of every day carry over the undone to the next day's list

5 hire someone to do the mundane that you just cant/wont get to yourself

good luck

IMHO the coach didn't teach me anything i couldnt have figured out myself.

Make sure if you do work with a professional organizer that he or she has a good understanding about Attention Deficit Disorder.

I have a great coach.  I believe it's her personality more than anything that helps me.  The price is reasonable and she's honest with me.  Her husband is pediatrician specifically for ADHD kids.  Portland, OR area.

My coach with say:

"Tony are you gonna get a planner?  " after I didn't get one for several months.

Finally, I got my planner..."Tony, that's great.  Now would you use the F*cking thing!"  She tells it like it  is when so often, I sugar coat things to myself.

I wander off my task constantly. Our monthly meeting helps keep me refocused in a way I can't do for myself. More so than the medication or trips to the doc for refills.

The organizational tools other people mentioned are helpful. You still have to carry them out and "Find a home" for things.

I know the tools and rules I and struggle with it.  It's stuff I know... but just because we know better...doesn't mean to live by it.  Getting rid of things like mentioned earlier is good.  If you only have 1 thing on your desk to grab your attention... hopefully you end up working on that 1 thing instead of osmething else.

That reminds me< I have to go use my planner...i neglected it half of the week.

Tony

ok  but what about multi tasking

Hi, I live in Southern Illinois and am very interested in finding a coach to help me organize my business.  My coach must understand ADD and sometimes the physical limitations of Fibromyalgia.  I am ready to sink or swim, my brick and mortar business depends on it!
