I found Chonidine to be very sedating when my then 3 yr old was scribed it. We now use Tenex( similiar drug but less sedating and more stable) It would not hurt to give it a try. My daughter now 6 and about 50 odd pounds or so takes 1mg in the am ..lunch and at dinner. It seems to keep her hyper-aggressive moods somewhat in check. We use strattera instead of stims and feel it has been successful for the most part.

I have a 5 yrs old son. Since he was 2 we noticed he was extremely hyper, aggresive towards other children, impulsive. He was kicked out of 4 different pre-schools due to bad behavior. I have tried therapies non stop for the last 3 years and nothing is working. Finally we decided to try Meds. We took him to 2 different Psychs. and definitely he has ADHD.
First he was put on Adderal xr but did not work..he got very sensitive and crying alot. Then he was on Focalin...got very hyper and more aggresive, then we tried regular adderal and did not do anything. Last week the Doctor said that probably he is not going to respond well to any of those. He tried now a different kind. Clonidine....
The first day I panic. He was like a zombie. all day he was falling asleep...NOT like him at all.. I call the Doctor and he cut the dosage in half..to give him only half the pill in the AM and also at night. Well...now he is just the same.. It does not do anything for him.
I am so desperate.. He does not have attention problems.. Its just his behavior/hyperactivity level.
Is there anyone out there with similar experiences..
I am running out of hope. This is been about 2 months trying medicines and not even ONE day I have seen improvement with any.

If Clonidine does not work in the next couple of days then we need to try something else and the mood stablizers will probably be the next ones. I pray that we can find the right one. I am so tired !
I also have a 3 year old boy and he fights all day with him. always in competition and very aggresive towards him. Its a struggle ALL day ! specially on the holidays since they are together all day.
i know exactly how you feel. I have two sons, 9 and 5. both have adhd. just give it time. it will get easier. hang in there!!!
my son takes concerta and for the 1st month it was like he was a different kid. then he went back to his same old ways so his dr put him on a mood stablizer. it has made a world of different. it helps with his aggressive behavior so it natural calms him down, also. my son was 7 when his dr put him on risperal, mood stablizer, so your son maybe to young but it is worth a try for a suggestion to the dr. best of luck.
