actually coffe is part of my perscription..
to much rit slows me down
36mg concerta & pot of coffee i am kicking but & very stimulated enegrnic
my doc & i are honest w/ each other he knows i enjoy the stim buzz, fantastic for my focus, the type of hyperactivity i used to show was just being loud yelling, only when alone as im shy
but caffeine is my cocktail
caffeine typically HELPS ADHD - so think carefully about stopping it. Also there are withdrawls from coffee so do be careful as it could make your mood worse initially.
You may need to get your meds increased. When first on them it's typical - they work fine for about a month then adjustments need to be made. You may need to take them closer together - or find another way of taking them (switching to XR or back to multiple SRs during the day).
Check with your doctor before changing anything. Maybe take a sheet of paper and log how the day feels then bring that in?
Good luck.
I'm wondering if I even have AD/HD if I'm having these effects. If I'm having moodiness and things getting on my nerves it just doesn't seem right that the drugs are really working. Plus, in the past I have posted that my job won't let me use it so might have to go to a nonstimulant. Who knows!I'm cutting out the anti depressant today and see if just taking Adderall will have the same effect. Maybe they just don't mix well together.I've been taking 2 10 mg of regular Adderall a day plus 20 mg of Celexa a day. At first I was feeling a little bit better, able to concentrate, things not getting to me. Now I'm finding things getting on my nerves all the time and getting moody and angry. I think I can concentrate a little better but feel like I'm really dumb and can't think or remember things. I'm also craving coffee for the caffine effects which I give into and maybe that's the problem
My wife is getting upset because I'm getting on her nerves and seem to want to argue about things. This is not me and don't like it. Maybe the Celexa and Adderall is not a good combo. I'm sure cutting out the caffine would make a difference. Thanks for any advice!
thanks angela, i think i will =)
Hi michele! Thanks for posting again. This is my 3rd day, so this is good to know. I'm still feeling slightly "buzzed", but it seems to be lessening day by day.Hi, a few of you responded to me. Thanks it is the 6th day for me and much of the side effects have gotten much better.
Michele
Michele, I started taking Adderall XR, 20 mg yesterday, and I, too, had the high feeling with the strange shooting sensation up to my brain. Today seemed to be much better, and everything seemed to be really clear.Hi, I just started on Adderal XR 20 mg. I have a high feel that feels like it shoots up to my brain every once on awhile. Is this normal the first day? Will it go away. I do not like it. Does my body need to get used to this med?
thanks,
Michele
Star, Concerta is actually time-released Ritalin, so it's no wonder you're experiencing the same feeling as when you were on the regular Ritalin. I tried Concerta and kinda got the same feelings you're describing. I would try to get your doc to try you on Adderall, which is a different chemical make-up than Ritalin and Concerta. Adderall works much better for me than the Ritalin products. Good Luck!
my doctor warned me that adderall is addictive
OMG! Are MD's really this misinformed???
Yes, if Adderall in high doses is ground up and snorted, you can fully expect to become dangerously addicted. The sudden stimulant impact to the body can very well result in menatl craving for more.
However, if taken as prescribed, all of the research shows that addition is not a problem. As you begin the med, at a low dose, your Dr should be watching your progress and should be slowly increasing the dose until you determine a dose that provides a theraputic effect. Your body gets a chance to slowly adjust to the med without becoming dependant.

i'm a 26 year old female and i was diagnosed with adult adhd (combo inattentive/hyperactivity) about 2 months ago. i was suspicious that i might have it for about ever since i learned of adhd, but didn't want the stigma attached to it (laziness, hypochondriac, etc.).
when i finally decided to see a doctor about it, he prescribed ritalin. i took the generic kind (at first one 10mg a day, then a 10mg pill twice a day, finally 10mg 3 times a day). i felt slightly clearer headed, but somehow this stimulant made me feel tired!
the next month, i told my doctor that it didn't seem to be the magic drug i had anticipated so he thought a stronger dose might help. he prescribed me a 54mg concerta. i've been on it for a couple of weeks and it's the same. i feel slightly less distracted, but i think i may be wishing it more than it being real.
my question is, when you guys took ritalin/concerta for the first time, did you notice great effects immediately or is it very subtle? maybe i was expecting too much? my doctor warned me that adderall is addictive and has more side effects so he is hesitant to prescribe it to me, but do you think that may be the answer? i'd appreciate any advice. thank you!
.IMac38947.4214236111star - adderall is actually very safe at the levels they prescribe. There is very little chance of danger of dependence unless you take more than prescribed. And it works so well that it outweighs the little danger.
Many who take ritalin find that it saps their energy. It is designed originally to work with hyper kids so it often does that.
You can get the doc to try you on adderall (or dexedrine which is similar), combine your present med with a second type or other combination. Therapy will help a great deal and I always recommend that you never take meds without getting the therapy as well.
Just keep in mind that sometimes the affects of meds are noticed more in what others see in you than what you see yourself. Have others noticed a sudden change in your behavior?? That's the best gauge of all.
Don't give up either!!
right now i'm on concerta (54mg). i started with generic ritalin (started at 5mg once daily, gradually went up to 10mg 3 times daily), but i didn't feel any different, except the drowsiness so my doc put me on concerta... but, it's the same feeling as ritalin.
Star are you taking regular release Ritalin?
Everyone is diffrent, but i bet that if you cut the celexa, and way,way up thethanks a lot to everyone who responded. imac, i guess what i expected was to be able to focus on my work (i'm a legal secretary) and at night class. i thought ritalin would turn me from the easily distracted person i am to the "normal" worker that others seem to be. but, i still find that on ritalin or concerta, my mind wanders and i can't perform a task (such as boring data entry) for more than 10 minutes at a time without needing a "break."
glenw, yes i did notice that ritalin decreased my energy. i am much calmer and don't fidget as much when i am on the medication, but even at 10mg, it's to the point where i am almost sleepy. i am usually very talkative and hyper when i'm with my friends and they noticed the calming effect. they even jokingly (i hope) said it made me boring! i don't really like the idea of combining meds, but i guess if that is normal practice, i can ask my doctor about that.
i guess what i'm saying is that the drugs seem to be helping the physical, hyperactive side of my adhd, but not so much the inattentive part (which is my main concern).
maxdad, sorry i think i used the word "addictive" incorrectly. what he actually said is that with adderall, you form a tolerance to the drug and eventually need more for the same effect. with ritalin, he said that is not the case. i guess the addictive part is more of a concern that i, myself, have.
sorry for the LONG post, but i really do appreciate all your input! i know it'll take a while to find the correct treatment, but i'm quite an impatient person =T
Star, can you describe what effect you expected from Ritalin?
