I don't know really know y. I have ADHD inattentive type, tho i have read that Tenex is used for ADHD patients. It's my fist day on it, and i have minimum dosage on both of them. i heard that it takes a week to see some results, i guess i wll then know if he is doin something right.  Until then i'm gonna try and research it. Thanks ;)

sounds like a plan!

Hello, I am newly diagnosed with ADHD, the innattentive type. I'm gonna be on Tenex and Straterra. My doctor is starting me on the lowest dose. i am wondering if there are any teenagers (I'm 16) or anyone knows the effects of it on teenagers. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

im 17 and on strattera....

do you have anxiety issues or hypertension? why the combo of tenex and strattera? tenex generally DECREASES norepinephrine levels, while Strattera INCREASES them. im sure you Dr. knows best, but its funny you would be on these at the same time, as they do opposite things to your body. bluecloudsky438209.2023032407thanks rita, I'll be sure to watch out for my blood pressure!

My 7 year old (ADHD) was taken off Strattera because of a dangeroulsy high Blood pressure.  She had other side effects as well but the BP was way too high for someone her age.  (would be way too high for anyone)  They took her off it immediatly.  I would keep a close watch on it.

I started this topic so that people can have a discussion about both the POSITIVE and negative experiances they have had on Strattera. Please, feel free to ask one another questions and share your personal experiances.

I DO NOT have A.D.D. or A.D.H.D, but I was placed on Strattera because of possible borderline personality disorder and previously diagnosed Depression and Anxiety, which are in part related to the Celexa I am on to treat OCD...I know, I'm a mess

I have had an all around great experiance with Strattera. I find I am finishing entire tasks with less resistance, and I am far more relaxed and "in the moment". I get pretty bad headaches and muscle tension, and the Strattera seems to be very effective at helping those.

I have only experianced a couple of negative side effects and one of them is a racing heart. I have clocked my heart at 130 b.p.m. and OVER, which is really very high for me...seing as I weigh 120 lbs. and exercise enough so that my heart rate should be lower....I also have mild insomnia, which only adds to the severe insomnia that the Celexa, which is being used to treat the OCD gives me. I find that I can only hope to get to bed early...

I am willing to live with those side effects though in trade off for the wonderfully improved quality of life that Strattera provides me.

Anyone else have a heart rate that was significantly elevated after taking Strattera?

Thanks,
Brendan

ps - I am only on 20 mg/day. 10 in the morning, 10 in the afternoon.bluecloudsky438208.218900463

to everybody:

please do not forget that we are talking about kids.  a 40 mg drug is not going to cure the fact that they are kids.  want your kid to be an addict later on?  No?  don't give them more and more and more and more and more drugs now.

for every side effect -- you do not need a drug.

example.  i just woke up.  i'm hungry.  i eat.  belly hurts.  take a drug?  now my belly feels good, but i'm tired...another drug?  now i'm reading, but lose my place?  another drug?

c'mon people.  take a drug, monitor it.  make choices, but your child should not take a cereal bowl full of drugs every morning to make the teacher's life easier.

Thanks for the reply, Nathan at times complains that it bothers his stomach.  Guess I'll just keep my ears & eyes open.
Our 12 yr old son takes 50 mg Strattera and 10 mg Adderall for adhd. Also takes effexor at night to counteract negativity.  We are questioning effectiveness of Strattera and effexor. We are considering Tenex or Clonidine to use with Adderall to help deal with negativity and ODD-type behavior. The negative/defiant behavior is taking a toll on family, especially younger son. Anyone have experience with this combo? Thanks.
Maybe I'm mistaken, but my understanding of ADHD is that it's a disorder that is common(in varied degrees)and can be successfully with the appropriate meds.  I don't mean to be disrespectful or insensitive by any means.  But I think alot of people are masking some very serious psychological problems under the ADHD umbrella.  I'm no expert but, maybe you should get your son rediagnost.  Thank You

My ten year old was only on strattera for two months, he had real bad side effects that kept making him miss school. He would get sick all the time, while on the pill, and he said it made him feel like he was on a loop roller coaster.

Has anyone had problems with tics on Straterra? My son was only on it two weeks and has terrible eye/head tic. He has been off it a month and the tic is still there and he has not sleep through the night since he started taken it.

Hi, my son Nathan will be entering 2nd grade next week.  He was diagnosed with ADD at the end of Kindergarten.  We tried Concerta - definately didn't work. We then switched to Strattera.  I actually cried after his parent/teacher conference at the end of 1st qtr in 1st grade - he was doing so well with his school work.  He still needs to be reminded to use his time wisely, but who doesn't!

The question I have is that he seems to be sooo tired all of the time, even after 9-10 hours of sleep at night.  He has had some heart racing but has not complained of that lately.  He takes 40mg with his breakfast.  Has anyone else noticed this side effect?  I've noticed many of you saying you take the dose later in the day, any reason why?

Sorry this got so long - I have a habit of rambling.

I absolutly loved strattera for my son.  Only his attention span wasnt there.  So we got switched to Concerta, but I am wondering if I should try and get him back on Strattera and have the doc add a small dose of something like adderall or concerta? Our 12 yr old son takes 50 mg Strattera and 10 mg Adderall for adhd. When using meds of any kind, blood pressure and puls and blood work should be done regularly. Our Dr. is doing it at first every 2 months now every 3 months. Hope next time every 6 months. No problems with Strattera. Couldn't swallow at first and nausea. Both no problem anymore. Taken on ful stomach after Breakfast. Eating at meal times here no choice. Next time his thyroid is being checked also. Runs in our families both sides.Tiredness because empty stomach all night. We start with juice for fruit first. Then add protein and carb next. Ex. OJ, toast with peanut butter. Give medacine right before leaving for school. rshn

This has been working great. Yesterday played game with him. Talk with child also found helps. Our son has more than 1 disability.

RSHN38405.6227777778Try adding B1 daily. I have tics left from past seizures in childhood.I feel this a part of these problems. This is nervous system disorder as well. When taking this my tics are gone. rshnSleeping problems: take out all starches and refined sugars in dinner.Best for us all these are all sugars.Ex. Salad and chicken . Add warm bath with lavender oil, chamomile tea with honey. Also great.rshn
