I am an adult taking it at 20mg 2x daily. I have nothing but positive results. That doesnt mean that your ds will have the same experience though. We are all different. I did have some side effects in the beginning, it took about 2 weeks to subside.
They were a slight appetite suppression, a "crash" at the end of the day, where I felt tired, and sometimes a bit irritable, I also, had to have a routine to help myself fall asleep -- I couldnt just drop my head on the pillow and pass out like I have in the past. ( yes, I mean that, I was a day person, and at night sometimes I wouldnt even remeber my head hitting the pillow, I was already asleep!)
She is at quite a smaller dose than me of course, and she may not experience any of these symptoms, or might have some that I didnt have, like I said we are all different... Above all, if anything concerns you always call that Dr.

My ds of 8 yrs has been prescribed Metadate CD 10mg. I'm not familier with it. i have read the drug info but would like to know if anyone has had a good or bad experience with it. my son is taking medadate cd. has been for about a year.l this is after some bad experiences with other meds. seems to be doing real well on this one.did you start your child on it yet?My 9-yr-old daughter took Metadate CD from the time she was finishing kindergarten until Christmas in 3rd grade. Her body began to metabolize it faster and just didn't respond to it effectively anymore. I loved it while it was effective though. We saw decreased appetite, but not much else. She did have some spells of phobias of dogs and storms and bugs, but I'm not sure that it's the medicine alone causing those. We recently switched to Concerta- trying different doses for over 6 weeks, but never saw any improvement. I told dr that what I was seeing reminded me of why I took her for testing and put her on medicine in the first place. She has been on Focalin for less than a week now. Things are going better. Any comments about Focalin?CindyW-Wow, Cindy, I don't usually reply to post that involve kids...cause I don't have any. I'm an adult adhder that takes ritalin la. I just feel sorry for your kid! The doc won't give your kid a different med??? Have you already been through the "try this med" experiment? If your doc will not let you try a new med...try a new doc. Your boy needs to enjoy his childhood.....
And please don't think I'm preaching...your post painted a picture of a little boy who is having a hard time.
My 13 yr old son takes Ritalin LA we still have a rough time some days. But he was diagn more then 6 years ago .we went thur alot of drugs before we found the right one just keep tryin . if it isn't working tell the dr to change it .i remember concertta WOW! my son cryed all the time . right now he takes 40mg of ritalin la 25 mg of straterra and 50 mg of seroquel to help him sleep at night . He's also bipolar. please just keep talking till someone listens. And if you need to make sure to pick up some pamplets on ADHD and take them to the teachers . tell them if they have a better way to deal with the problem after reading them to let you know. thats what i did .   ; good luck
