If I had your number I'd make it my mission to keep ringing until you either picked it up or disconnected it. Hows that for hyperfocus

Hello...... Are you there....... David'O?....................

Ahhh!

A challenge!!!

Since before the sun burned bright in your sky, I have awaited a challenge!!!

Heheheheh!

Hey, wait a sec!

If'n I hate phones so much, how come I gots one?

I was wondering that myself. I nwas also thinking it would cost me an absolute fortune if you did answer

What the hell, lets give it a go anyway

If you hear the phone in the middle of the night will you resist the urge to see if Peita Pan is on the other end of the line?

I used to think I liked talking on the phone but now I realize how easily bored I get when on the phone. It's a terrible thing really. I'm shy anyway but with inattentive ADD my mind always wanders and i have such a hard time focusing on the phone conversation!! It is very frustrating. I'm happily married now but when i had long distance relationships with ex's,it was very hard for me to stay focused and not get bored after awhile. I was soo bored. I'd make excuses to go because the conversation would really come to a stop and then I'd just be like "sooo..." like "what should we talk about now" I also get nervous on the phone, more than in person sometimes. I have social anxiety, but sometimes it comes out more on the phone with friends. It is so embarrassing! Even with my good friends it happens on the phone! I run out of things to say.

That make sense, anyway.

To the listener.

I always make sense to me in the now.

In retrospect, not always.

I take back that earlier comment.

I do answer the phone if my kids are calling.

But then, they're not just anyone, are they?
I'm bad for not returning calls. My friends blame my husband for not giving me the messages
You're bad for not making the call, too!
I'm bad for not returning calls. My friends blame my husband for not giving me the messages All in good time. Gotta have the element of suprise

I hear a lot of us say that phones bother us.  I too am like that - but I know why I hate using them most of the time.

As a kid my parents were often at the tight end of a large debt.  Many time credit card companies would call when both parents were working - and there were few regulations to what they could and couldn't do to get the money they were owed.  Once when home alone a company called and talked to me - telling me to make sure mommy or daddy got all the money to them or they'd send them to jail.  It freaked me out and left me with a pretty big mental scar.

I don't like to answer the phone - but thanks to meds I can call friends and family and talk.  Still don't like to stay on too long that ends up being a loop where you end up going over something too many times.

But it's an ADHD thing too - my sisters both have the same problems.

i always find myself avoiding phone conversations with my friends and girlfriend. i would really just rather talk to them in person but my girlfriend is out of state and i HAVE to talk to her over the phone. she gets mad at me because i never really talk to her about anything or i just let her do the talking. anyone else have this problem?
I understand. I dislike the phone a great deal and try to minimize my usage of it.

1. Talk to your girlfriend, explain the issue, learn to limit your time. My wife now knows that if i say 'ok, i'm full' or just apologize for losing track that it's not her fault, only that I've reached my limit. Sometimes it can still bug her, but on the whole it really works.

2. I've also had to learn to talk when necessary. It took a long time, but it's a necessary evil. Again, those whom I deal with most often have been briefed on things so they dont take offence. They know I'm better on IM or email and we do most of the chatting that way.

Mostly, just let people know and then you wont feel so self concious about it.

Love e-mail, hate the phone.

I get so restless when I'm on the phone.  I pace around constantly, I can't sit still when I'm on the phone.

Phone. It is called, CALLER ID. I love it. no id, no answer.

 My answering machine clearly says.

we are unable to come to the phone at the moment, If you want to waste time with a message, wondering if we will call you back, feel free to leave one at the tone. Please note, if your caller id is blocked we will never answer your calls.

 BEEEEEEEP

But then we have the no call directory thing.

 otherwise, I hate the phone.

 Hello?
No.
Maybe.
Yes. Why?
Ok. see ya.
Bye.

 big convo on the phone.

I cannot stand to let the phone ring and it gets me annoyed that I have to answer it, if I dont it drives me crazy wanting to know who it was and what they wanted. But when I do answer it Im equally annoyed as most people dont really call with anything interesting to say and I spend more time asking them to repeat what they said cos my minds wandered off whilst they waffle on.

Mr D' I would have to answer your phone for you!!!!!

Years ago I decided to control the phone, and not allow it to control me.

Now, I'll answer it when I want to.

If someone wants me bad enough, they'll leave a message, or email me.

I refuse to allow the phone to control me.

I refuse to allow anyone to control me.

It is not anti-social to not answer the phone.

It is being in control of one's life.

When friends come over, and my phone rings, I can see their cognitive dissonance building as I allow it to ring.

It is actually funny sometimes.

Ya oughtta try it yourselves, eh?

Heheheh
Waffle on, honey...

I'm gonna let it keep ringin'...

Usually it's me ears, from the ex yellin'.

Hey, why is it sooooo quiet lately???

Woo-hoo!

I love talking on the phone and get in trouble for it. I won't!

That's the beauty of it!

I don't answer the phone for anyone.

Then I go back and check for vmail.

I will answer 8-5 M-F, though.

But then I'll look at the caller ID and decide, sometimes.
Heheheh, or I'll be so deaf from all the bull I won't be able to hear the phone ring!

We went to the Fresno edition of the PBR tonight, and saw some blood and gore.

Very patriotic, I must say. I was deeply moved.

Took over 500 photographs of some spectacular action. I'll post some on spyglass later in the week for y'all to enjoy.

So, Miss PeitaPana, Ring away. The phone is across the room. It's only 02:30 PST here, which should make it 21:30 there, if'n yourn on the easternessedge of the dry island.

Ring, ring. Neo, follow the white rabbit...

How will you know it's me??

Do you have caller I.D?

I don't like phones either. I usually jump a mile when my one actually rings!

I always find incoming calls a pain, as I'm normally trying to focus on something else. I have to psyche myself up to answer it as I need to completely switch gear from whatever I'm doing, to talk over the phone. If I'm doing something I was really concentrating on or important when the phone rings, I get really ratty.

I have to be able to doodle whilst on the phone, otherwise I stand no chance. I usually feel awkward and get bored quickly on the phone, meaning that even calls to my family are very short.

Recently, at home, I've developed the bad habit of ignoring the ring if I think I'm doing something more important. Amusingly, it does really confuse others when you call them back later and they learn that you weren't out: they then think they’re going mad!

totally feel you on the avoiding phone thing. XCEPCIALLY at work! i'm an email junkie.

Yeah, Not enuf stimuli to so its really a chore to pay attention.

Yes!  I hate it!  My best friend gets her feelings hurt that I only Email her and never call.  I feel so "tied down" to a phone.  Even with a cordless phone I feel like that.

When I was a teenager,  I couldn't get off the damn thing. Now I hate it. I'm not really sure why, but whenever I can I email. I never realized it was a component of ADHD until I started reading posts here. I'd love to know what causes it. Prefer email over voice comms.

Don't think knon-ADHDers do, with calm.

They like to hear the sound of voices.

Maybe the non-verbs give them choices.

They don't believe what we are saying.

"Liars!" they would be loudly baying.

Yet with the clearly written word,

They would themselves be found absurd.

Me too, hate it. I talk to my hubby becuz, well, i luv him  but anyone else i avoid like the plague. .....funny, when i was a teenager my mom used to tell me i had a phone growing out of my ear!!!

chris

I almost NEVER use the phone. When the phone rings, I silence it or turn it off unless  it's an unavoidable special occasion (obligation or necessity) that I knew about beforehand.  Not in my teens. Not now either.  Email's  fine though.
I hate phones, unless its headphones in my stereo. I would get rid of it if i didn't have kids. about the only people who want to talk to me on the phone are Telemarketers and bills. Otherwise, I tend to offend!
