coffee and marlboro. works for me coffee and marlboro what kind of advice is that?  Try reading or go to CHADD and find the nearest chapter in your area.

I was diagnosed with ADHD about 6 months ago soon after I turned 24.   The first thing that I was given was Strattera and I hated it.  I was constantly grumpy I had no ability to pay attention to any thing, and not in an ADD way, more of a "I haven't slept for 24 hours" way.

After that I was put on Concerta and say much better results.  I don't bounce around as much, although I saw as much benefit when I smoked.  (I quit 2 years ago)

I think that it's a case by case type of thing that every one is just going to have to see what works for you.  If you can control your self with out help then thats great. If you feel that medication helps you then thats great too.  There is nothing wrong about getting help so you can be happy with your self.

Hi everyone, I'm an 18 year old girl who has had ADHD since I was 12.

I was put on Ritalin @ school to stop me being hypactive & to help me concentrate but it just gave me headache's and made me feel sick.

I stopped taking medication after this happened but took it through my GCSE's as I thought this would help.

I went to see two different consultants who tried to help me on my work & help me with my disorder, but it didn't seem to help

Recently I have been working in an office environment & because I'm still a little hypa it's making work a little hard.

Does anyone know of any other medication or a hellpline number which I could call to get help & guidance.

Do not worry. See a doctor again and you may need to try different meds. I just started Stratta and feel focus more focused. I also do not seem to have any real side effects as of yet.

However, besides medicine, I have found ways to concentrate. I use a fan to kill random noise, have one light on my desk for better focus for reading and break work time up in to small segments. Theses little tricks have help me get through school and work.

Also, doing uninteresting work can be boring but you can find ways to make it fun. In college I had a repetitive job for a while. I cleaned cable boxes for a cable company. Boring! However, I created a game that was directly related to my job to make the time go by. I timed out my work to see how many boxes I could clean in a given time. I started cleaning 20 boxes in an hour then with the game I did 60 boxes. That worked out for me. I actually had fun doing this and it also paid off for me. My boss liked my work and when a promotion came around he recommended me for the new position. I eventually graduated college and have steady job. I still use my tricks to help my ADD.

Medication can work but it will not fully change your life. . I bet you are very smart, you just have to work harder then others so be creative and use ADD to your advantage.

Good luck!

caffeine is a stimulant... so is nicotine. i quit them now though now that i'm on concerta 18mg qd. concerta gives a steadier blood level compared to other stimulants, which could mean less headaches than ritalin, which also has the same active drug, methylphenidate anyway.

consult your doctor. tell him bout the headaches and tell him you wanna try concerta. my research has lead me to the conclusion that concerta is currently the best stimulant right now coz of its unique delivery system.

God bless

If you want a good medication that is a non-stimulant yet works well on adhd try out strattera.  I take it and it's great.  If there's anyone else that takes strattera, give your thoughts and opinions of it.  How does it work for you.  I know it works for me, and I've struggled with ADD all my life.

God Bless.
