ONE YR LATER | ADHD Information

After  years of  willing my way thorugh ADHD and telling myself I just needd to try harder I went on medication one yr ago this month....

2005 and was the best year of my life.  I still have ADHD, it still caused problems  but,  my illness  never  caused  interference like it had in all the yrs previous. It's nice  to be able to slow down and apprecate how good my life really is. The circumstances  are really unchanged  my attituide   and perceptions are.   I am so grateful to not   experience boredom as my primary  feeling  racing moment to moment  for the next  thing that could hold my attention.    I still have days that are rough but  in the past i had  moments that weren't rather than  weeks.   I still get fidgety   and  still   bounce artound on occasion but  it's not  like it was before. I am not ina permannet  state of  frustrated impatience with myself and the rest of the world

Wow am I happy I took  the leap and  stopped doing the "  medication is evil shuffle"

Bobel,

Thats great to hear of your success!! WOW! What meds are you taking?  Did the first ones work?

Thanks, Kayak Gal

When I took Adderal for the first time, my life changed.  I was on the other side of the fence of fog that filled my life.  It is impossible to go back now.  You are always trying to get to where things made sense and where you finally remember things.

Bobel, thanks for sharing your success with us.

thanks kayak gal! Nice words and appreciated.

I didn't have any friends left when I found out.  Big surprise to all those with ADHD right? LOL!!  Now - I tell them I have ADHD when I get to be friends.  I warn them about some of the things I may (or may not) do and ask them to keep me in check by calling bullsh*t on me if I fail.  It sure helps and I have some true friends now to help and I help them.

Look - a true friend is a friend in good times and bad.  If you tell them straight and just explain the big things about it - they should still love you for you not love you less for your ADHD.  If they fly away - no big loss then.

I'm glad you are finding success too! Isn't it great?!?

Glen,

I am so glad for your success!! Sounds like you were having a rough go.  I have to ask you how to you bring this up to your friends?  I have been totally secretive about sharing with my friends.  Unfortunately where I live was deemed the #1 ADHD over diagnosis place in the country a couple of years ago.  It still lingers on peoples minds here since it made major news.

On the good side my treatment is working wonders for me!!

Thanks Kayak Gal

As all who've read my posts here know - it's been a wonderful change for me!

What all may NOT know - it's now been over 13 months since I began my quest.  And I never look back!

I started Dexedrine November, 2004 and it worked right away.  No more chatter, no more lies.  Memories of a wonderful childhood replaced the scattered negative memories that I had.  Colors were there again - and no fog!

I give all my friends here credit for helping me face my troubles by sharing them with you.  This way it takes its power away and I now can let it go.

I am DATING again!!! I talk to friends and strangers.  I stand up for myself! I work so well I get compliments!

There are still occasional troubles but they are few.  Just like a normal guy.

Thanks all - and I hope the new year does well for all of you.  Well not the trolls I hope they get painful ulcerated sores in their nether regions.  All of them.  Very painful.

Anyone here also have drug or alcohol addictions along with the ADD? If so, did the ADD med change any of the addictive thoughts or behaviors?

Sherry,

That is awesome!  congratulations!  I know us ADHD/ADDers work so hard and praise and appreciation are paramount.

Keep up the good work!!

Kayak Gal

I was reading this thread and getting this warm and fuzzy feeling for all of you having success with your meds and then this thing about the Trolls caught me off-guard and I almost split a gut laughing.  Snuck-a-sneeky in there didn't ya! Your great Glen!

.IMac38943.8640625I'm starting to think there is no hope for my DH without meds.

I just got a glowing evaluation from my boss at school.. there were such things as " wonderfully planned lesson" and "love the room"  and it is so "nice and neat" written on the observation form...

NEVER did I get such an evaluation of my work or teaching before medication. People are more friendly to me ( or I to them, I dont know, LOL) and life is so much less stressful!! I still have issues but I am handling them a little at a time..

So YES!! Life is much better since I have started medication. I am also more patient and less frustrated with myself and others... Its funny - I don't really feel any different, just my behaviors have somehow changed...
