Glen Lakes or Shelton?? Dallas ParentsOldtimer I would love to talk to you .email me so I can give you my phone number Veracruz1988@ hotmail.com . I live in Coppell ..where do you live?? Hi, I am very new to this board. I have posted before about my 5 yr old son. He is right now in a Special Ed class thru the school distric in Coppell,Tx. This fall he is going to start regular Kinder Garden and I am very concern. I know he is going to need more attention that any other kid if he is not under meds. So far we have tried. Adderall,Focalin,clonidine..now Ritalin...we are up to 20mg and No difference. He is very Hyper. We are thinking of putting him in a school that the teacher/student ratio is low and he can get the best education possible. Has anyone out there has their kids in one of this schools? A question that I have is ...If they go thru a special school do they still need to take their medicines?? or What is the point of spending the money for this special schools? Right now where he is at since he only goes for 3 hours and they have 5 to 1 ratio he does very well. Our problems start when he comes back home from school and when we go out to public places. Then thats when we need medicine to control his impulsiveness/hyperness. I am very confused and I don't even know where to start since kindergarden is coming soon and when he was in a normal school setting he was kicked out for bad behavior from 4 different pre-schools. Any advise will be greatly appreciated Michel72, are you asking whether a school can force your child to take medication? If so, the answer is an emphatic no. No school can force a parent to medicate a child because it is a medical decision made by a doctor, not a school decision made by school administrators. Besides, some disorders can't be treated with medication, and the kids are still guaranteed a free and appropriate public education.
Glen Lakes I see kids in our Dr.'s from there who say they love it there. It is a school set up for adhd kids K thru 12. Where are you at? We were told about this school as a good one. Ratio 1:10.Shelton is bigger school. I suggest you look at their cite. Uniforms also. I wish we could talk on the phone? Rn |
