Longest Wakefull Period | ADHD Information

I've pulled a couple of 40 hour shifts, and a 38 hour shift.

Hell on the brain, but nice OT.
I am still.

Awake.

Boo

Hoo

Hoo

I'm an insomniac. I understood that character in Fight Club. Luckily I've not developed an alter ego yet.

That's what Peita Pan thinks, I'm Captain Hook.

Fight Club. Veeeery interesting movie.

Sometimes in this dull and pastuerized world of televisions and franchise stores, I wish someone would hit me so there would be something I could feel.

last year, i went to the dentist for a tooth infection.

got some vicodin. took 2. was up all night. didn't think much about it, 'cuz i get insomnimaniacal a cpl. of times a yr. anyway.

was tired next night, so i took 3. up again.

next night, took 4. vicodin is not a stimulant, right? up AGAIN!

by then, i was exhausted, but out of pills. up only till about 4 a.m. the last night.

couple of hours of sleep, back to normal sleep patterns, but a little zombified for a few days.

now i take caffeinated beverages before bedtime. and no more vicodin.

My 60+ hours were drug related.  Ah, sleep. What a waste of time...

i reread my post-

i think i put in one day too many.

my first scenario had me up for 80+ hrs. that doesn't sound possible w/o being in a situation like hemmie's.

i think it was the third night, not the fourth, that saw me finally falling asleep, sometime after 3 a.m.

for some reason, a couple times a year, i will end up staying up a night or two, or (three if i've gotten a few hours sleep). don't know why.

when i do this, i'm not all that active. reading or watching t.v., or surfing the net. just not sleeping.

seeker6338740.234537037As my ex would say:

OMG!...You're bipolar! That proves it!!!

Everything was black and white to her...
When I have insomnia, my brain goes on strike, and refuses to stop walking the picket line. I've 'missed a night of sleep altogether once in a while(at least once a month). But thats life for me and is usually followed by a 'crash' a few days laterof 12 to 14 hrs.Navy forced us to stay awake for practically a week.. we'd enter sort of 'trance' states, like 1 minute naps and stuff. Some of the guys were even WALKING with their eyes open, yet asleep.

Got some 12 hours of sleep after that, and then got dumped into the pacific (in februari.. 58 F temp) and told to swim 5 miles in that.

And now I'm wondering if we had 10 gulf war vets vote, or one with MP from PTSD...
I once pulled 3 days.

 no drugs. PURE ADHD.

I think I did it 2 or three times. I was about 16 or 17.
bugz-

You mean that isn't normal teenage behavior? Geeze wish someone would have said something!
So how many hours was that, seeker?

I'm math and physics challenged.
If I slept for 1.5-2 hours per night I'd be fully arrested.

My sleep is only off when my thyroid medacine is incorrect. I eat vegs/ meat for dinner this helps sleep better. I also do lavendar lotion on bottom of feet. Helps also.

Our problem here is we are not Morning people at all. We have to force it when necessary.

In my 20's is when I could be a wake longer. Not anymore.

It isn't you, we don't understand it either.

i don't mean to be a party pooper.

but the ability to stay awake for days at a time without needing or missing sleep could be bipolar related behavior.

Sometimes AD/HD and bipolor can coincide.

sonya_h38742.9067708333The longest I ever stayed awake was just over 85 hours, but there were extenuating circumstances.

Personally I only ever sleep 1-2 hours per night, and never more than 30 minutes at a time. I think that decreased sleep is something you eventually adapt to. If I sleep for 1.5-2 hours in a night I am fully rested.

I'm glad you added "could" there sonya! LOL!! It would have been unfair to the stupid ADHDers to say otherwise.

I used to suffer insomnia - from my childhood to my late 20's / early 30's.  Now I sleep on a dime.  In fact those long haul car driving days of mine are gone.  I find that after 15 or 16 hours up I can hardly keep my eyes from crossing and I have to pull over.

My longest really usefull waking time was 36 hours.  I was working the whole time too - a pilot truck behind a sanding truck.  We were trapped between two avalanches and drove back and forth for a day and a half keeping the road clean for when they could open and let the starving scared tourists back down the highway.  By hour 30 I was seeing people walking in my path and had to shove snow in my clothing to stay alert.  Oh don't do that folks it isn't pleasant.

I think it could be an ADHD trait and not just a bipolar kind of thing.  I hear a lot of true blue ADHDers say they either suffered or still suffer from the lack of good sleep if sleep at all.

I hear that a lot.  As a matter of fact to this day air force pilots carry a "wakeup" pack including... get this folks dexedrine!! Yup the breakfast of champions.

Now they have another pill in trial (the name eludes me) that supposedly can keep a soldier up without side effects for as long as they want him up.  Of course they are testing as it's believed that without REM sleep there could be major damage to the brain including a critical breakdown of the logic center!

George Dubbya I salute ya!! Of course it's only one finger and ole' squinty eyes has to guess which one I'm holding up in honor of his greediness.

that's been suggested to me.

but it's the only behaviour i exhibit that is described as bipolar.

yeah, that's why I emphasized "could".  It is not always the case.  Especially if you have no other bipolar symptoms.that said, what the heck am I still doing up?goodnight.
