St John’s Wort? | ADHD Information

Hello, this is my first post. I am inquiring about the use of St John's Wort in place of other anti depres. medications. I would like to know if anyone on the board has had any success or failure going from traditional meds.

I would be interested to know how the transition was and if you felt relief

Thank you

Check out the alternative section for things like this.  I wouldn't keep your hopes up though every single clinical test shows that st. John's wort is about as good as tap water at helping depression.  It's a folk rememdy that's all folk and no remedy sadly.

I don't know about using St. Johns after having used other anti-deppresants. However, once upon a time, I was married to a not so nice guy, and very, very depressed. I was concerned, that if I went to a doctor, and told them how depressed I was, I'd have my children removed from my custody. I don't know why I thought like this, but thats where my level of confidence and self esteem were. I read about natural remedies, and decided on a course of St. Johns and Ginseng. I took this combination for a little over a year. My home life did not improve, but my outlook improved significantly, enough so that I eventually removed myself and my kids from the situation. I suppose it could have been psychosomatic, but I don't think so, I honestly think that St. Johns works. Just my $.02 Didn't work for me, but, like prescriptions, what works for one,may not work for another.

One concern is if you are on birth control, be careful.  Saint John's Wort has been reported to cause birth control to be ineffective.  Check it out.
