Am I on the wrong meds?? | ADHD Information

bump up

I was diagnoses withe ADD three months ago.  The first month I felt great.  I was put on Adderall and noticed a difference almost immediatly.

After 30 days on Adderall my doc put me on Wellbutrin also.  For the past couple of weeks, at least the last two, I have felt very blah.  It almost feels as though I have no energy, and don't seem as motivated as I was in the beginning.

I'm not sure if this has something to do with the Wellbutrin or what.  All I do know is that things were great and now I feel like I back at ground zero.

Please help if you have any ideas about this!!

Hiya, new around here.  *wave

Do check with a doctor if you are having medication issues.  Stuff my doc didn't tell me:

When I first started taking Adderall, a friend who was also on it told me to make sure you are eating enough food and drinking enough water.  It is normal to be a bit tired when meds wear off, but if you feel like you got run over by a truck it is not the medication, it is lack of food.

I was on wellbutrin very briefly, but it really made my ADHD much worse.  I lost my keys 5 times a day instead of just once or twice.  I tried cutting the dosage down to about 1/3 the usual and was able to continue taking it, finally just ended up switching to another antidepressant.

We all have different responses to meds, so your doc would hopefully be able to address any concerns.  But even your doc doesn't know what your experience is like.  Doesn't hurt to look for your own solutions while waiting for your next appointment.  :)

Welbutrin has been coming up a lot as the MD's wussy choice to combat ADHD.  I don't believe it should be the first choice - maybe 20th choice.

I'd let your doc know you're feeling dropped out.  Most likely he added it because he saw your mood coming up fast and was worried that it would cause you trouble.  Welbutrin has been used to stabilize moods for a lot longer than used for ADHD.

If your MD says yes it was for mood then I'd ask to be off it.  One med is easier to monitor than two right?  You MUST come off it slow though - there's a nasty disorder called seratonin syndrome that can cause brain trauma and even death if you just drop it.

sounds like adderall was doing something good - see what comes next.  Be prepared to have to up the dose once - maybe twice at first until you get even.  Then you may choose to either take daily and skip weekends - or like me you may decide to schedule med vacations - mine are every 2 months with one week with no meds.  It works for many.

And do check with MD - and best of luck!

How much are you taking? Are they time released?    Give the Wellbutrin another couple of weeks. It can take a while to get into your system.  If it doesn't get better call the doc. But don't quit it on your own.  The doc will probably step you down off of it.  Did the doc say why he/she was putting you on the Wellbutrin? ADHD wasn't the main reason my doc put me on Wellbutrin.  It is suppose to help the impulsive behaviors that wracks havoc in my life.  The Adderall works for the ADHD, but didn't  do enough for the impulsiveness.  The good thing about the Wellbutrin is that I have stopped many of my impulsive behaviors and slowed down on many more.  Some of those behaviors are too embarrassing to post

Maybe though, those unwanted, dangerous behaviors are why docs prescribe it?  I don't smoke, but have heard it helps people quit smoking as well.

It doesn't do enough for the depression tho.  Wonder if you can take Lexapro with Wellbutrin and Adderall?
