In agreement with Monkey.
Beer actually SLOWS DOWN metabolism for approximately 48 hours after drinking it. It actually can cause more weight gain than if you would have eaten food that equalled the same calories.
Sorry I don't have a referrence for you.. I am just so weight obsessed that I have learned quite a lot along the way...

Okay, here is my question! I have been on Concerta for about 5yrs now, and I have gone from 175lbs to now right at 220lbs. I eat pretty much nothing, don't drink liquor but on the weekends which is only about 5-6 beers at the most. Does anyone know if Concerta on an ADHD adult causes weight gain? I know on children and a normal person it actually causes weight loss, but not on me......UGH! Even in the summer when I exercise and stay active I don't lose any weight........any suggestions? I know I can't take Ephedrin, so that is out of the question for help........I NEED SERIOUS HELP!!!
Thanks

Concerta won't normally cause any weight change once you get onto a regular med schedule. Loss is temporary and that's why its not used as a diet aid anymore. People found they had to dangerously keep upping the dosages to get even a marginal loss over time.
6 beers are actually a lot of calories. And as to not eating much unless you are extremely waterbound due to kidney failure or salt intake that's dangerously high it most likely is that you are absent-mindedly eating as many do (and I have been guilty of it too). A good check of that is to empty the cupboards and fridge at home and buy day-to-day for a week. Keep a tab of it by looking at the receipts after one week. You'll be surprised how many calories you are taking in.
Hmmm - also get a thyroid check. It regulates weight and can mimic ADHD for many symptoms.
Eating is most likely suspect though.
And do not EVER take ephedrine and your meds!! Glad you show good judgement there. So get into your doc. Now.
im a concerta user/fan .. first few months i dropped about 10 lbs...
loss has not continued
.IMac38943.8652546296I know that I really messed up my metabolism by not eating often enough. I find that if I don't actually plan out and put meal and snack times in my schedule I can go almost all day with out eating. My body actually goes into starvation mode and I gain weight. Some times medication helps me really focus on things and unless I set a reminder to go eat I lose track of eating. When I get in the habit of eating healthy food and normal portions about every 3 hours my metabolism actually starts to speed up again.
