Carpal tunnel is caused by consistant rubbing of the carpal nerve sheath protecting it. It can only be caused by repetitive strain and nothing else. Period.
You may feel it now because you are typing more. Or your job has increased responsibilities using your hands. Or it's been there but you've been too distracted to notice. Also ADHD meds constricts smooth muscles like blood vessels so it may aggravate already swollen tissue. Any way it is you got it through non-ergonomic motion of the wrists.
If it's mild carpal tunnel it can be reversed simply with wrist braces and retraining of typing or labor in more ergonomic ways. Get a higher chair/lower keyboard. Learn to move without bending the wrists repetitively. Either way cease doing whatever causes it the way you do it now.
I hope you get on this soon. My mom had surgery on both wrists and it ain't pretty and leaves scars and pain even now.
Good luck!
I took Adderal for a year and a half and never had a problem with carpel tunnel.Hbone I have just began getting the symptoms of carpal tunnel. I have already had wrist problems before and I thought that it was just getting worse as I got older. But now that I you have said something it started when I started the meds. That is so weird that you would mention that! I wonder if it does have something to do with the meds?HI All - I know this is a shot in the dark but has anyone on this board experience &/or heard about carpal tunnel syndrome associated with stim use? I have been on Adderall for about 2 yrs & only recently have begun to get symptoms of carpal tunnel, mainly in my dominant hand. My only other experience with CTunnel was at the end of my pregnancy and a few mths after my son was born. It went away soon after.
I do quite a bit of heavy lifting all day with my child, groceries and just daily chores in general but before seeing my primary care I was wondering if any of you had a similar experience? A shot in the dark...
Hbone
I still can't see a direct connection. But it could be edema (swelling) aggravated by a constriction of blood around the site. Perhaps more water intake to keep the body from concentrating sodium around the area and swelling it up.
Carpal Tunnel just doesn't go away. It needs to be cared for and whatever caused it must stop so it can be brought back to normal. If you get it typing and just take antiinflammatories but don't regard the original reason by keeping typing the same way - eventually it will worsen.
For best results a doctor must check it out. There is tendonitis which can be similar if you have never seen either so they can figure out the where and why of it all. As with most here -check with a professional before worrying.
Glens right(i think), and you may consider buying an ergonomic kewboard to reduce the strain on your wrist while typing. Other repetitive actions include hammering, repetitive gripping of tools bycycle or motorcycle grips, even excessive 'white-knuckeling ' of driving a car( I do that). The nerves which cause this runs through the palm where radius and ulna meet the carpals. Excessive shock can cause swelling and place pressure on the nerve.Since I have been taking Adderall I too have been experiencing carpel tunnel problems.....I had CT when I was pregnant with my first child and not since then. It started agravating me when I first started taking the meds at the first of this month..........I wonder?????
