actually scan has the opposite effect on me that other "scanning" has - it drives me nuts in the car!! I tune into mindless talk radio and I don't hear it really. But on long trips the talk keeps me idly thinking. Music hypes me up too much.
I buy books on tape too. It's a great way to waste long trips. I listened to steve martin's "shopgirl" a few years back - good book! Radio is so up and down in my area. And no way am I getting sattelite radio it sounds like a waste of my time.
I do that but maybe for an hour and then notice and finally select a station. Thats funny, I thought I was the only idiot that did that!I often find myself listenning to the radio while it's scanning for an entire trip. I hit the scan button and I just let it keep going while I listen to 5 seconds of every station in broadcast range over and over again. Of course the stations change as I travel!
I guess this could be on the 'U know ur add ...." but i wanted to hear from the rest of you.

Hey Auntie, didjoojuscallmeanidiot? Just cause you're special like me (and apparently the only one) doesn't make us idiots it makes us special. Of course "special" is now the educators' code word for "need extra help" and kids these days use it as a put down. Funny how language morphs. remember when being "gay" was good for everyone?
For me the radio is just background noise, I guess.
I prefer country and when my daughter or hubby drives my car they change the channel. It might be a couple of days before I realize it. Its kind of unsettling when you realize you've been listening to your daughters music the last couple days and never knew it.
Scan? That stops on each station for like 10 seconds! I haven't got that kind of time. I've got the preset and seek buttons on the back of the steering wheel, so I can scan at MY pace! I forget when there's a passenger, though, how incredibly annoying that is. [QUOTE=fisher]

I'm sorry. That was rude. Forgive me.
We are special.
I make a 2 1/2 hr trip often to my Moms house and half way I listen to "talk" radio and then loose the signal so do a scan. Next thing I know I'm at my Mom's house with the scan still going. And I have no idea what I thought about during that whole 1 hr. drive. It's like...bingo...I'm at my destination.
