natural supplements, how to choose?Hello, we are using a combonation of Coromega and Listol, I get the Listl through "progressivehealth" and the Coromega from a local health store. It is helping my one son and not the other one. My 11 yr old is failing. I don't know what to do, I hate the stims and his body can't really tolerate them, but he is FAILING. We tried the strattera and their grades droppped drastically. I have 2 full bottles of the higher dosage in my cabinet right now, we went back to the stims b/c it didn't seem to work. How much are you using for your 9 yr old? Thanks for the reply! joshsmama, chloe- have you considered homeopathy? this is what we use with our 8 yr old adhd son. we've seen dramatic changes in his behavior and his teacher reports that he is doing well. she had no idea he was adhd!! we tried the stims. too. they made him worse and then there were the tics and afternoon rages. upping the dose and adding other meds did not feel right to us and i began searching, much like you are. do not be fooled by these combo. so called homeoapthic remedies. (bee calmed ect..) they are not homeopathy and usually do not work. they have multiple remedies in them, hoping one will address any number of problems. see a classical homeopath who will take your child's case and prescribe one remedy to take. you can go to www.runboard.com/bhomeopathywellnesscenter check out the children's section and/or post a question. good luck in your search, i hope you find what you need! kppy Thank you for replying. I have tried to find a homepathy in my area and there aren't any. A few of the health stores do some muscle testing to see what the body is lacking, but that was about all I found. I try your site you recommended, and see waht I find there. Thanks Hey kppy, I tried to pm you with some questions regarding the wonderful site you referenced above, but your mailbox is full. Could you please make some space for me!? Thanks.
oops, sorry csmommy! all set now. kppy Chloe, Thanks, my son seems to be happier off the meds, but we are keeping a close eye on him. His tics have mostly subsided, but his studdering seems worse. He had apraxia at 26 months, not able to say a word. The only comment his teacher had is that he bangs his pencil into his paper when he is frustrated. A suggestion a teacher friend gave me was to give him something to hold in his left hand, like a stress ball. I will take your suggestion on the Coromega and Listol, do I follw the dosage on the bottles? I follow the dosage in the bottle of Listol, I talked to them also, and weight doesn't effect the dose given, just 2 a day for anyone. The Coromega comes in individual ketchup shaped pouches, it is orange flavored and like a yogurt texture, it is one a day per person. Good luck to you~ I tried becalm for my son & it had no effect whatsoever. One major problem we had was an extra cranky boy because he couldn't fall asleep at night which *never* helped with his ADHD. The psych suggested giving him some melatonin about a half hour before bed. I bought tablets, crushed them and put them in orange juice on the evenings of 'rough' days. It helps A LOT! And melatonin is a naturally occuring substance in the brain that I've done quite a lot of research on. Mary Thanks, I have tried melatonin for myself. Glad it has helped. Thanks! I have been dong my research. We have 3 boys to.Some info on SCience behind Natural Supplements. Try this link if you can read a PDF format Document. http://www.neurorelief.com/files/tech_guide.pdf Some interesting reading. The last few pages are really interesting on some test results for ADD/ADHD.
When a product has a full page of ingredients it is definitely not a natural supplement! As the father of three boys, one of them with ADHD, we have found some natural supplements very helpful in controlling the symptoms. EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and fish oil seem to be the most beneficial. Give it a try and good luck. I'm sure there are more than this but here is a link to one of the products. http://www.shaklee.net/livinghealthierlives/product/20234 Good luck and just remember to keep it natural!
Thanks, Kyle's mom. I was at the conductdisorder last night, so will go back. I was re-reading my son's eval from 7 yrs ago to understand the ODD diagnosis better. Some days I fell like there is no hope and I ask God why. My 2 ADHD boys are just so hard to be around and it makes me feel bad. I rarely smile when they are around, I tense up and just want them away from me, b/c they just don't seem to learn at all about their behaviors, ever. I am beginning to reconsider the stims, even though I hate them so much. If I their own mother can't stand to be around them, I know others must feel the same way. : ( Seems like everyday is a bad day with them. WHY WHY WHY....sorry I had to let it out. If you are interested in essential fatty acids, read "The LCP Solution" by Jacqueline Stordy PhD and Malcolm Nicholl. Kyle has been taking EFAs since 1999. We use Efalex which is the only product we have tried that has helped. I have compared the ingredients, and it is the only product we have tried that has AA, one of the essential fatty acids. You can also try fish oil and evening primrose oil, which should give you the correct balance of essential fatty acids, especially DHA. Some other good sites for information are the ADHD section at healing-arts.org and the Natural Solutions board at conductdisorders.com. hi chloe, go to http://adhdsupport.proboards23.com/ go to the natural alternatives section. check out "where do i start?" lots of good info. you can also post a question. you'll get a wealth of info. here!! good luck, kppy Thank you to! On my way. Thank you!!I really love all the feedback about this area. This is so important to me, wanting something more natural to help with adhd. I have been searching online different natural supplements available. Has anyone ever tried any of these and can comment on how they work? Becalm'd Attend Listol Focus I have copied all the ingredients for all of them, their prices, recommended dosage, etc... I plan on printing it all out to compare products. One problem is though that I don't have much of a clue as to what most of the ingredients are ? Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate your comments. Chloe The top three were LISTOL, FOCUS ADD, and VAXA. If you believe their report, LISTOL had a success rate of 89%. I have ordered it but have yet to try it. I am dying to know of anyone who has and what they experienced! How is the LISTOL working for your son? hi, i just wanted to clarify that homeopathy is NOT about combination remedies such as listol, vaxa, attend ect... they may be labeled as such, but they are not. homeopathy really works best when you are under the care of a homeopath- preferably a classically trained one who prescribes one remedy at a time. never combination remedies. many times, people try one of these "combos" , it doesn't work, then they say homeopathy doesn't work. homeopathy DOES work, if you have the correct remedy. finding it is where the homeopath comes in. thanxs for the link to the study. i'll go read it right now! kppy |
