Bathroom fun Ha Ha Ha | ADHD Information

His colon has lost the ability to feel a bowel movement. Get a Miralax prescription from the doctor. Go to Safeway and stock up on Kellogs Bran Buds original (no other cereal will do). If the poop is runny reduce the Miralax until it is right. Give him the bran buds every day - 1/4 to 1/2 cup. Mix the Miralax in milk. Warm milk works best. For the barn buds, try milk, or try it dry with honey. This combo of Miralax and Bran Buds will prevent him from holding. Connect rewards to eating the bran buds. Big ones. This will allow his stretched colon to regain it's shape so he can feel the bowel movements. Do this for 6 months. Then have him sit on the toliet for 15 minutes after breakfast and dinner. Instruct him to push. This will allow his colon to regain the feeling of having to go to the bathroom. Pretty soon he will start going to the bathroom when he sits. Then you will know that he is  back to where everyone else is.

Nothing else works for this problem in my opinion, I've done it all. Bedwetting is associated with ADHD, but I dont think encopresis is (this is what your son has).

Unfortunately, there's no way we can diagnose over the internet what's going on with your son.  Encopresis (soiling) is not a symptom of ADHD, but it can be of other disorders.  What kind of doctor diagnosed your son?  What meds is he on?  Are the meds helping or making his symptoms worse?

Hello everyone can anybody help me.  My son is 8yrs old and has been having problems with his bowel movements.  He will hold himself to the point of serious constipation that we think something is very wrong with him.  He has had abdominal xrays continuously only to show that he is plugged up.  The doctor gives him meds to clean him out and we are fine for a day or two then it is right back to soiling his pants because he holds it so long, or refuses to go so it soils his pants.  Then he takes the soiled underwear and hides them either behind the toliet or in his closet or under his bed. The doctor just recently put him on a new medication to get things moving on a consistent basis but now he has the runs in his underwear which makes more of a mess. Could it be that the medicine is doing this because he doesn't eat all day then at night he is ravenous Is his system out of wack or is this just another crappy control thing. I am tired please help.bumpi have a friend that has a boy that is 20 now, but when he was about 6 or 7, he started that.  He would hold it so long that, like notellin said, he wouldn't feel the movements.  then after about 6 months to a year ( i cannot remember how long it took) his anus muscles were so "over worked" that they had grown that he couldn't go at all!  OUCH!  the Dr's ended up having to put him on an all fiber diet and he had to stay out of school for 4 months.  she had to take a leave of absence, due to the fact that she had to give him a Rx and 6 enemas a day.  BAD DEAL all around.  He's fine now.  but you might be able to tell him this at an age level way to make him understand.  I told my son that when a muscle works alot, it grows and can cause blockage.  He decided to go every time he thought there was an urge.  just a suggestion.I had a friend who's son was doing this, and it turned out he was afraid of the toilet. Some kid at school had told him that the toilet was going to bite him, or something, and he was terrified to sit down on the toilet. my friend and I both had this problem with our 4 and 5 year old.

here is what we did, her physician recommended this plan of action and it's worked for both of us:

give the child stool softener for several days - sometimes it takes a double dose at first - clean the child out completely - sometimes this is Hell....the stool softeners can cause nausea, and running bowls, it can be rough.  try to do this on a long weekend at home...bathroom handy and all that.

We also use pullups during that time so we can pitch them instead of laundering.

then - get the child on a regular "poop schedule".
we chose after dinner each night at some point between dinner and bedtime.  this is a time in our family when we're almost always at home.  another time might work better for your child.  analize your day and see when will work best.

Every day at that same time, have your child "TRY".  at first it will take many "try"s in one night.

if the child does not 'poop' within a 24 hour period, he/she must take another dose of stool softener.

If the child does not poop in two days, then give him a supository.  the glycerine ones are very effective and safe.

My son did NOT even complain about this proposed schedule - or medicine.
he was so tired of getting introuble for pooping his pants that he was happy to have the whole thing regulated.

when we forget and dont have him "try" each day - we go right back to having issues, "holding" causes an enlarged colon, and then it's harder to go when you have to, also, the longer the waste is in the colon, the harder it becomes, then the body tries to get rid of it by making it softer and wetter which pushes past the hard stuff, and causes the child to mess his or her pants without control.

oh how frustrated we were for so long!!!

it really worked for us, we use senecot pills, and store brand glycerine suppositories.

good luck.
