Straterra side effect | ADHD Information

My son is 8,he's been on straterra 20mg for almost a year,he just started having really bad nightmares,i was wondering if this was a side effect anyone else has experienced, also he has been having bathroom accidents. Please if anyone has been dealing with these issues let me know.Thank You!  Kim

My grandson (12) started on Strattera because of not paying attention in school.
About 2 months later became anxious, terribly depressed, with nightmares, teeth grinding in his sleep and suicidal thoughts.  He had several violent outbursts at school and at home, breaking things and weeping after doing so. He was weaned off Strattera and the change now is remarkable.  He is on a relatively low dose of Concerta and he is happy, appetite improved and actually focusing much better in school.
I haven't heard very many good reports about Strattera and would never recommend prescribing it to children.  By the time it builds up in the system it may be too late.  We truly feared for our grandson's safety.
Albar,Thank you very much for your reply,I'm making a dr's appt. for my son to have him put on other meds,I'll mention concerta.

My son was on Strattera, it took 5 weeks to get the appropriate dose. I never noticed anything untill the 4 week. He got severe stomach cramps due to constipation. I found out that this was a side affect after I had to take him to the Hospital. He was in so much pain, moaning ang groaning. We worked on that problem for awhile. On the 5 week everything started to go very strange for him. He was just as inatentive and getting into trouble for inappropriate noises and outbursts at school again. At home he was of the wall. Crying one minute and yelling at me the next. He said he feels mad all the time. He is not a mad child. His hands also shook really bad like he was going through withdrawls. It was horrible and my husband and I said thats it no more. We were ready to give up meds all together. I went back to the doc. and told him everthing that was happening and he was shocked. He said my son was the first that he knew of that Strattera didn't work for. I was angry and said we will just deal with the ADHD without meds now. He convinced me to try Concerta 36mg. I was very learry on this and talked to my 9 year old son about it and he said he wanted to try because he hates fighting with everyone and likes the way he could concentate better at school when he was on Ritilin at one time. Abyway he started Concerta and its beeh 1 and a half weeks now and everthing is going great. He feels good and we are getting along much better. School is going really well now and the teacher is very good with us and him.

I just wanted to let you know that Ritilin worked for a while then it didn't. Strattera was a long 5 weeks for nothing but misery and now hopefuly we found something that will work for a long time.

Thanks for listening. Its nice to get it of your chest once and a while.
