ritalin and depression | ADHD Information

Some get that - typically from the tales I've heard it's when the dose is wrong or if it's misdiagnosis and you may have bipolar with it.  If the dose is right and the diagnosis is correct there should be a reduction in depression as your mind levels out.

A better choice for adults who need to stay clear of depression and don't have bipolar as well may be adderall or dexedrine.  It tends to have a better reaction if you aren't working on hyperactivity but rather focus and other inactive ADHD troubles.

But for sure ask a qualified person such as a psychiatrist.  Are you seeing one?  It's very important if you want to see any good you get from the meds to stick around long-term.

Let your doctor know, so he can get you to try something else, or at least give you an anti-depressant to take with it."transcient" depression is a recognized side effect of ritalin.

Has anyone experienced worse depression on Ritalin?
I couldn't take Ritalin because of the deprssion it caused. In the end, it turned out I had bipolar. Not a good, helpful med for me.When I was taking ritalin that was the only thing it was good for! Helped with my depression and anxiety. Ritalin made me feel physically bad (flu like) when it wore off, so I only took it on bad days. I am now taking Cymbalta which I like alot but it doesn't help my ADD, but as I wrote in another post --My life might be an ADD wreck but at least I'm not depressed or anxious about it!My 6 year old has been on Ritalin LA since November 10 MG and I have not noticed any signs of depression.  She is described by the school is the happy go lucky girl always happy.  I was informed she has also improved greatly on the meds.  I would definetly talk to the doctor and see if there is anything else you can try, different people different effects.  Good luckMY TEN YEAR OLD SON TAKES RITALIN AND HE SEEMS TO BE ANGRIER OFF MEDS THAN WHEN HE'S ON. It reacts differently with everyone.My 5 year was on Ritalin and we have to remove him because of depression.  Currently he's taking Adderall and doing pretty good.  I take Ritalin LA.  No depression here.  I love the stuff.I took concerta and it made me very depressed. It always worked great for about 3 days then depression would set in. I tried 3 diffrent times to start taking it and this happened every time. I am now taking Wellbutrin and so far it is working great! Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be trying to find the right treatment.
