actually dexedrine might be the best result for the risk involved.
Why not get Rx's at one-week intervals? That would allow getting meds properly without the added risk of abuse! Also trying the dexedrine spansules allows 10mg increments and the added help of only having to take it once per day or perhaps twice if need be.
I believe some of the meds now are coming with a purgative added to make overdoing it impossible. I would be honest with the doc and they can help dose it.
The med itself at prescribed dosages isn't prone to abuse. It's an abusive tendency that does you in - the feeling good gets to be what you desire so you take more and more. If you Rx weekly and start asking to have it upped and you've warned MD about it then there will be no more for you. It's something good to think about.
And this time get a referral to the best psychiatrist dealing with adult ADHD you can afford. Tell the truth about all your worries and troubles and they can truly help more than the meds ever could.
As you've seen in my postings I went from sneaky paranoid hermit who barely kept a job let alone family and relationships to one year later having a wonderful gf, family on my side again and my job is at 4 years and going on 5!!
It can happen. Be honest - be assertive for what you need.
Don't look for what you want - get what you need most.
glen-
am I missing something? I thought bman meant he'd been on it for a long time and it's not longer working as it used to, so he was going to switch meds....but you're talking about abusing meds...I'm confused
bman has mentioned that it became an abuse after long-term use. He's become "tolerant" which I take to meaning he's used to the good feeling and is fearing he'll want more.
You must abuse them to get that kind of dependence. You can be on dex for 20 years at low dose and cut cold turkey any time - no physical dependence ever. Maybe psychological as it aids life and you get used to that and connect the med and good times mentally - but it's nowhere near the same thing.
dexedrine would be the closest, but if you're tolerant to the adderall, dexedrine probably isn't the greatest idea. It'll be trial and error, as it is for all of us.Ok I cant take adderall now becuz of high tolerance to it. The question is... what would the closest thing to adderall be??? Concerta??? Ritalin La>??? any opinionsok to clear it up... I misused the drug. I went off to college and became depressed. Well, I was great in the morning, (while focusing on work ..ect) when it wore off it was a miserable! so i took an extra one at night but i didnt realize until after the fact that in doing so would make my correct dosage not work anymore. (tolerant) SO I misused the drug... I didnt abuse it because i was taking one more than perscribed not 2 3 or 4 it was always one, not snorting ect..... but by doing this, it was too much for my system to handle so thats when hell broke lose. In any regards it WAS MY own fault, but i didnt realize it.
Anyways, I talked to my doctor and was open with him , if i wasnt than how the hell would he have known wat to prescribe. so he prescribed me concerta. Its basically the same drug but im not TOLERANT to Methylphenidate (the drug in concerta ritalin ect..... So this being said, Im on the lowest dose and im doing better than i have been for like 4months!
