how do you control the loss of appetite side effect? i've been told it will go away eventually. but in the mean time, how do u eat consintantly without getting nausiated...then loosing weight. i dont want to loose weight. i have figured out the right dosage, i think. I've been prescribed 30mg/day. Today's the first day i'm taking 15mg/a.m. then 15mg before i crash from the first dosage. hopefully this is the best way and dosage. i've been experimenting alot and couldn't seem to find the right dosage...with the least amount of side effects. still considering the xr. any feedback greatly appreciated.

any tips on an appetite increase as well?

I had the same problem.

1)  I figured out that I can drink things with no problems.   I got a bunch of health food shake powders and some brand of ensure that doesn't seem so old.  :P  I also drank lots of juice - some people say that vitamin C interferes with the absorption of meds - but some days I needed calories more than I needed the 100% medication effect.  It is also a good excuse for chocolate milk shakes. *grin

2)  For the first couple of weeks I only felt hungry at 2am or something - I would wake up hungry.  DON'T JUST GO BACK TO SLEEP.  Keep some high protien easy to fix food in the fridge and get up at 2am and eat.

3)  The side effects do get better, for some people they go away completely.  For me though, I still have to be very vigilant about getting calories in my system.  Otherwise I feel like somebody ran over me with a truck when my meds wear off.

Glenn,

I just started taking Adderall, this is my second day.  I am starving at certain points in the day.  I am eating as well !!! What's up with that?  I feel like the meds switch on and off all day????

I am on 10mg Adderall ER

I'm thinking you are becoming possibly dehydrated!  Make sure along with food you take in more than you usually do of water.  As I've mentioned these meds tend to be diuretic so you'll find that they drain even more water than you're used to.

Are you certain you are eating good meals every day - or just thinking about it and then getting doing it and planning it mixed up?  When my meds aren't working that happens to me sometimes as the urge to eat is less.

great! thanx for the feedback! do u know anything about adderall being a diuretic? of course, it causes u to use the bathroom alot! how can u make sure your body's actually absorbing enough water and minerals, instead of it just going straight through you? I've eatin bananas and gatarade and tons of water and i still get dehydrated!

The solution is to chew gum all day, and it'll make you hungry, that's how I managed to get food down.  I wouldn't advise physically pushing yourself harder with stimulants than you normally would without stimulants, just because stimulants increase your heart rate, and that would just lead to unwanted results.  Plenty of water is great, and you'll be urining quite a lot, so get used to that.  1212, don't consider the xr if you like the instant release.  The XR slows you down, and if you suffer from ADD, it's going to be useless because it's great for ADHD.

what kind of food do u make sure to eat?    Are their any minerals or supplements that u recommend? How long did it take for that unhungry side effect to go away?         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;

eat lots of protein.  I go for beans and rice a lot, hamburger (lean and mixed with beans as chili mostly), veggies and don't hold back anything goes, and stay light on the complex carbs like pasta (though I love them).  I use a multi once a week (I use a centrum multi plus minerals weekly but miss often sigh).

The unhungry came along about 40 or 50 days after my first pill.  At first the pounds kept coming off and other than a little light headed I honestly never noticed.  Then I weighed myself on a work scale and saw that I'd dropped about 20 lbs.  Way too much that soon so I said "Glen - you eat and do it 3 times a day even if you feel like exploding!" .  I listened and it evened out fast.

Well I took it as if I was on injections or something unpleasant but had to be done.  I set up a timetable each day where I forced myself to eat small meals that had enough nutrients to keep me going.  I eventually set snack times on days off and it worked great! Supplement with Gatorade or other drink that can give you electrolytes as adderall is a diuretic and you'll flush a lot of your water and minerals down the drain.  Remember - 8 glasses of water a day!!!!

Exert yourself physically.  Weightlift - increase workload if it's labor.  Walk around the block 20 times.  Get up a sweat! Once I upped my output I became ravenous!! I eat like a horse now a year plus later but I don't gain anything significant as it's good food and I work extremely hard.  Lots of water - remember that!!
