Hitting a wall with Strattera

Hi All,

My 6 yo started taking strattera in July. At first we saw some improvement, which was nice. Then some side effects like compulsivity and sleeplessness at night ( which we had before but thought they might be taken care of). Now it seems that we are at square one again. She is focusing well, but her anger is back with a vengeance, she is lashing out at her two year old sister and my husband and I, and really having a hard time coping. After the first 3 weeks , we called our doctor with questions and he told us to hang in a few more weeks since it took at least 6 to really see results. Well, we are past 6 and frustrated; she's unhappy, my stomach is in knots all day...Anyway, has anyone had this problem with Strattera? I thought maybe it was a dosing problem: she is 49 lbs and taking 25 mg. I am so nervous; we go to the doc on weds and I am sure he is going to want to change her dose, or try new meds. Sigh. I don't want to be on the medication rollercoaster, I have a friend who went through that and it seems like such a nightmare. I do want her to feel good and be able to have a good quality of life, and I know there is no miracle drug, but I really had higher expectations. Thanks in advance.

Allison

strattera worked well for us for several months before things seemed to get worse again.  Strattera worked like a dream for the first 8 or 9 months.  I noticed it seemed to stop working earlier and earlier in the day.  We are still messing with dosages, since we had good results in the beginning.  we are just trying to figure out what is the right dosage to get where we were.  My 5 year old is currently on 18 Mg in Am and 10 Mg in afternoon.  My 6 year old is on 18 Mg in Am.  I must add splitting dosages has been great for my sons appetite (which was awful before).  Hang in there and Good luck.
