I have never had any problems too often falling asleep.. mine is more staying asleep. But for some reason over the past few months I sleep like a baby.. maybe I am just working myself so hard that I need a good hard sleep!!
A lot of my night time wakefulness would have more to do with anxiety than ADD, I think.. .. I think its a plus for an inattentive to fall asleep.. ya just daydream until you are out like a light..

I take ambien sometimes, on those nights when I know I am not going to fall asleep. And you are right about going straight to bed after taking it - I almost fell out of my chair the first time I took it. Almost like being knocked unconcious but without the head injury.
Most of the time though, I feel tired and I think I am going to fall asleep, and then I keep hoping I will fall asleep. Until it is way too late to take an ambien and still wake up in time the next day. I pull at least one, sometimes two all nighters a week. You would think that I would learn!
I've had to take Ambien for the past couple of nights. Ambien just sedates, it's not like an SSRI (an antidepresant ) or for anxiety.
It knocks my lights out in about 30 minutes too! A really strange kind of drunk like state. Now when I take it I only take 3/4 of a tablet, go to bed and within 20 to 30 minutes, that's all she wrote (did I just write an idiom?
)
(Nevermind, sorry)
Anyway, I don't like taking it because I know it can be adictive. So I only take it if I I haven't slept for a night, then I'll just take it for a couple of nights and that usually gets me back on track.
Hey you guys. yaaawwwn need to schedule psych appt real bad...gonna ask for ambien. I dont know why he gave me ativan as a sleep pill. He also first suggested strattera a long time ago...so maybe he gets something from the specific recommendation? Lol, the appointments are like 10 minutes too. Like this:

= 4 nights no sleep with a break in between.
I work third shift, so my insomnia comes in the daytime. I've been on third shift for about 10 of the 16 years i've worked, and you would think I would have it down by now, but no. So once in a while, (like now) I sometimes have to use sleeping pills to get to sleep at the right time. Having a schedule for sleep is important for getting restful sleep, otherwise you feel like you have to be cranky!
Ambien is in a class of medications called 'hypnotics', and Isn't a good anti-anxiety med unless you would rather be 'knocked out' than calmed down. I've used Ambien before and unless you're really 'wired' should put you to sleep inside 30 minutes.
I use ambien and it knocks my lights out in less than 30 min.The first time I used it, I took it and decided to finish a movie...ohhh that was the wrong thing to do, I fought it to stay awake and when I stood up to walk It was like I was drunk. Never again. I take it and go straight to bed.Ambien 5 mg
