it's a bad idea if your child is only ADHD.  Adhd is hard enough for children going into adulthood, why add a "disability" label to it?  I think you should if the child is bipolar (i wouldn't but other's might need to) or there is a severe handicap involved.  That will show up in a background check and is asked on most job applications.  I just thinks it's not a good idea.  But it's my opinion.  each child and parent are different.

Also going through the paperwork they have income guidlines and if you are over their alloted amount you will get  nothing anyways.

Sarahafox,

You can apply for SSI, But as Jillette said they do have guide lines, I tried it. They told me right off I made too much money for my daughter to receive SSI. So you will have to check the guide lines to see if you would even qualify. I am a single Mother and I didn't qualify.

it's a twisted system.  I know some one that is terminally ill.  Death is the only outcome from her illness.  she was in the hospital 9 times (each for over 3 nights) in 2005.  She was denied, but the guy in town that had a sex change got it!    Talk about a failing system!!!

My mother in law gets it she's bipolor and an acoholic so you know where all her money goes. The lady at the SSO's said that we are illagble yes I don't know how to spell.

It's their doctor that denied us.

The income requirement numbers are about 30 yrs.old also. Don't bother if you can't get other Govt. help you will most likely get denied. My scare is would we denied the education grant also. I don't get we qualified for a FHa home loan but nothing else. Makes no sense to me at all. Us in this categorie are the people in the USA who pay for those who won't work who get it. Seems backward to me. RN
