Hoarding | ADHD Information

Does anyone else hoard their meds? I am just so scared of being like I was before, the idea of being without terrifies me..I skip doses  to ad to my stockpile.

Then I think of , what if there was a fire, all that work for nothing.

sounds kind of nuts even to me

kitty - I know you're frightened of losing your meds - but you have to do something brave and talk to your therapist about this.  It sounds like you have a fairly common condition called Obsessive/Compulsive disorder (OCD).  One of the symptoms is hoarding - so it may be more than fear.

Also sounds like your anxiety level is through the roof.  Usually the meds will help with straight thinking but anxiety can override this and leave you feeling totally overwhelmed with it.

Any good doctor will not remove you from your meds if they work unless you're abusing them or your heart is being harmed.  He/she may get you on an anti-anxiety med along with your present med.

I'm concerned about you.  That would be a living hell and you're honestly scared of losing your meds and the freedom that it gives.  I know how you feel.  Heck - it may even partly be the hoarding adding to your feelings.  The meds usually work best if taken every day at normal dose and if you're either cutting your dosage or missing days that can make you a bit paranoid at times.

Please get in and do what needs to be done.  You've been brave here - translate that feeling to your caregiver ok??

I'll be rooting for you.  If you need someone to talk to more - let me know.

Glen thank you so much..wow you are certainly a kind person.

When I was a teenager I had a weight problem and my mom took me to the doc and he put me on amphetamines.I not only lost the weight, for the first time in my left I felt*normal*

I thought it was just because my life had suddenly improved because of losing weight but now I think it was the meds I needed, since my grades shot up, I made a lasting friendship, quit losing things so much, actually finished boring tasks, etc.

This was the early seventies, then Nixon banned     them in 1972 or 73

I was just diagnosed last year with ADD and

I think thats where my fear of losing my meds comes from, I lost them over 30 years.

I do have anxiety attacks and have xaanax for that.

I really thank you for being so nice to me
