My nephew went into one of those boarding schools and after a year, he is a totally different person. I am so proud of him now. They found just the right meds for him and managed to get a diagnosis that was right. It turned out that he didn't have ADHD but bi-polar and ODD I think. Whatever it is, the meds and the behavior modification worked wonders.

It may be hard for you and your family right now with your son in there but if the results are as good as they were for my nephew, your son will be glad he went and you will have the great kid home without all the grief.

I'm glad to see you also taking care of yourself! Welcome!   Barb

Hi Guys,

Thanks for replying...I feel like I really arrived!!!   My son is definately doing better..even though it's very hard on him and myself to have this separation.  I have no other children, and am a widow.  So, I miss him very much.  It also takes a lot of trust when your child is in the care of others.  His level of respect toward me (which was virtually gone), has been re-established.  He still trys to get away with things, but the school which is a token economy, is very consistent and firm... A highly restrictive envirnoment.  I am learning how to be what he needs me to be.  With the help of the school and the Straterra, It will help me to be less fragmented and more consistent for myself, my job, and for him.  I am hopeful.  It's nice to be here and look forward to connecting more with you guys. Lynn    P.S..  How do I change my location from ALBANIA???? to Garrison

Dear Dance4Ever,

If I any of my family is given a med (even a new antibiotic) I tend to go the pharmaceutical company that created it's website and check it all out.  If I am unsure when I get a script - I also ask the chemist if this is a normal dosage for this particular condition/weight/age and if they back up the docs claims I feel better.  Just a thought for next time.  I also have had interesting medication stuff ups because of doctors.

I'm a 46 yr old mom of a 13 yr old boy with ADHD. He is presently in a boarding school for behavior problems, and is now off all medication. I started Strattera 6 days ago at 40mg. I was immediately sick!! Hot flashes, dry mouthm, sweating, chills, headaches, overall horrible. After 2 days, I came to this website and learned that I should have never been started on 40mg, but instead should have been on 18-25mg., for 2 weeks and then on 40mg. I then told my Dr., and am now on 25mg for 3 days and reduced my Celexa 20mg to 10mg. I'm starting to feel better. It pains me to know that my son was put on Straterra 40mg.(before I knew what I know now), and he was sick, I made him stay on it thinking it would pass...he was 68 lbs...I'm furious at the lack of information these Drs are given on a these new drugs. I am hoping that eventually the strattera will help me to be less fragmented, scattered, forgetful, and unfocused. Has anyone experience this and come out the other side to success? Thanks. Lynn

Hi and welcome. How is your son doing? I hope he's okay. I had to go off Strattera but I know some people really think it's great. My family saw an improvement in both my social skills and my concentration skills.

But it raised my heartrate and blood pressure too high. So they took me off of it.
