Check out the insert or stapled information on the Rx you received. It has the most common and is pretty accurate. The most common is a jittery feeling, restlessness or sleeplessness and lack of appetite. These typically are mild and not to be panicked over. Those typically also disappear after a week or two. Within one month of being on 10mg dexedrine spansules all side effects were gone.
The best part of dexedrine is that it works fast. You should see some improvement within the first couple doses. It's important to set up the doses at the same time every day. If you find your son is having trouble sleeping then try to give the dose earlier in the day. Spansules last about 6 to 9 hours while the instant release can last between 3 and 5 hours depending on the individual. You may just have to monitor him for a short while to see how he deals on it.
Remember that these side effects are usual and not life-threatenting. If your MD hasn't done a checkup to ensure his heart is sound I'd have that done very soon. There often isn't a history of heart disease and yet a problem is there (usually a form of irregular heartbeat goes unnoticed and is the problem). Do make sure the background check and medical workup was done before putting him on it regularly - it's essential.
