adderall xr | ADHD Information

We had a lot of issues with Adderal XR.  My son was on 5 mg. at first and then was upped to 10 mg. when he was 8 yrs. old.  He was like a zombie at school (although he DID focus better)  he had zero appetite all day and then feasted from about 8pm till bed.  He couldn't get to sleep, he had mood swings, he began having raging headaches and then we took him off it.  It was not a pleasant experience at all.  My friends son had the raging as well.  She said her son pulled a knife on his 2 sisters one day when no one else was home.  he also cried over nothing.  She also took him off it.  Both boys were on it for Inattentivness.  Neither one is hyper active.  We don't use medications at all anymore (it's been more than a year now) and things are much better.  Be careful with that drug especially since your son is so young.  It's pretty scary stuff. my 6 year old son has been trying diffrent  meds  for his ADHD. adderall xr works good but it makes his tummy hurts. so i woundering anyone has had the same trouble with adderall?

Hi my son is 7 yrs old and is taking 5mg of Adderall XR.  He takes his meds after he eats his breakfast and it has not caused him any problems for his stomach.  He does get hungry at about 7 pm so we always have the snacks ready for him.  He is somedays very emotional when the meds start to wear off so we try to keep things as normal as possible.  He is going to be starting a new school that specializes in Learning Disabilities(which he has) and they will be monitoring him closley with his meds.  I will update you on how that is going  soon.

My son is 8 and we started on 10mg of adderall worked up to 20mg.  After about 1.5 months son got very moody.  Cried easily, lots of separation anxiety, and very very argumentative.  Now on Focalin xr and much better.my son is on 10mg of Addreall XR. He says he hears voices in his head. Anybody else experience this?My therapist (not my psychiatrist) has told me on many occasions that some of her younger patients hallucinate and see bugs or little worms or ant like insects that aren't there. When that happens, the med dosage is too high, or it is the wrong med for your son. As crazymama stated above, switching meds might be a good idea.
