Questions about meds please read...new! | ADHD Information
Hi everyone. I am a 34 yr old woman dx'ed more than once w/ ADD not sure if it is ADHD or ADD. Anyway, I have tried the following drugs: straterra, wellbutrin, concerta, other antidepressants and even fish oil! Anyway, I am considering going back to a new dr in my area Dallas TX and I would like to try Adderall, probably the generic. Anyway, I was wondering if the stimulants are hard to get a dr to prescribe. I would guess if you have been officially dx'ed and tried everything else non-stimulant first w/out good results and being older it would not be hard, but I am a little nervous about the Dr visit and finding one who will not think bad of me and will prescribe Adderall. Also, if anyone is from Dallas and has a good dr please refer me. And by the way, will Adderall make me gain weight? All the other drugs did and I have ended up w/a 48 pound weight gain on my small 5'1 frame. I am fed up w/the ADD and the weight gain! If so, I will not even try it. Thanks guys! Sherry I am 42 and am going tonight to hear a doctor talk about meds for adhd. The person I am going with is older than I am and takes adderall. I will ask her about weight gain. Anyway, adults seem to be getting some relief for their adhd through meds. I will report back about what the doctor said. I know she is fairly aggressive with meds - she believes they can really help and isn't afraid to prescribe them to adults. I am in Houston, though.
If a doctor thinks bad of you for needing adhd meds then they have a problem - not you.
I know a good Doctor in Plano, his name is Scott Woods. He is a Psychiatric.
Good luck...He is a great Doctor.
Sherry - since you are already dx'd it's no big deal for most MDs or psychs to prescribe you adderall. Some are antsy and try to force stratterra on you - but most now are seeing how unworkable that is on the average ADHDer.
You can try the Dr. above - or you can check out www.chadd.org and see if there's a chapter near you. They often have members who already have awesome help and are more than willing to give it out.
Best of luck - and remember there's also dexedrine sulphate and it's actually one of the cheaper and best working remedies!
thanks so much guys. i see now i shouldn't be ashamed.Dr. Mech is my Doc he is in Plano.
