focalin xr | ADHD Information

my son recently started on 10 mgs of this from 54 mgs of concerta,the drs wanted for him to eat more to hopefully gain some weight. it seems to be ok during school but he's wore off by the time he gets home. how do you other parents deal with the rebound after the meds wear off,my son is driving me crazy by 7 pm. any advice would be greatly appreciated.Try a short acting med when he gets home, though if you don't want it to wear off before he gets home you may want to up the dose or try something else. My son takes 15 mg FocalinXR. Perhaps asking the doctor to up the dose woud help too. From what I've read, focalin only seems to work 8 hours.  My son is ten and takes 20 mg Focalin XR at 6:30 AM.  His metabolism eats up his meds.  He's very med resistant.  He takes 20 mg of Focalin XR again at noon and regular Focalin to be able to do homework.  Even with that, by 7:00 pm he's dancing through the house and torturing the dogs.  We ALL go to bed at 9:00 to get him to calm down and go to sleep so that he gets the sleep he so desperately needs.  Focalin XR IS designed to last eight hours...idealy.

My 12-year-old son takes 10 mg Focalin XR in the morning (we may raise it to 15 mg next week) and then 5 mg Focalin after school to do homework.

BTW, 15 mg Focalin XR is probably a closer equivalent to 54 mg Concerta.
