Aloha,
Im new to this website & forum. I had to do something to find out more information on ADHD. I recently realized that my son who is 3yrs old and was born 5wks early with gastroschesis (which his intenstines were outside of his belly) he is a healthy boy! Praise GOD! But just a few weeks ago I don't know exactly what made me read up on ADHD but there was an article on KidsHealth.org that said premature boys are more likely to have ADHD and as I kept reading I found myself thinking of my son. Started thinking of some of the things he would do how he react(ed) his behavior his attention. And realized that my son possibly has ADHD. He is a smart boy. But Im lost to everything, as much as my son has told me he wants to go to school I'm scared and nervous to put him into preschool.
I really am lost...Couple of things I need information on how to handle ADHD and where I can go to send my son to school and a ear to hear my woo's
Mahalo Nui Loa (thank you very much)

Sherri - Welcome!
He's probably too young to be formally diagnosed or to be given any medication at this point. I wish I had figured it out when my son was 3 - I would have changed his diet completely instead of letting him eat the crap that he loves.
I recommend that you research the Fiengold Diet, and move him to it as soon as possible. I'll bet you get some very good results and since he is so young, it's easier to control what he eats. Remember that allergies (including food allergies) can present very similar to ADHD. Does he eat lots of dairy and wheat products? That might be a clue.
Also, if you read through some of the other posts (because I can't remember them all right now) there are several posted websites on diet and behavior management. You can do it! (Use the Search button - it will help you find the information faster).
BTW - from your note, I'm guessing you are in Hawaii. My ADHD son LOVES Hawaii. After our vacation there, he decided to become a Marine Biologist so that he can swim in the ocean and look at the animals all he wants! He can't figure out why we don't move there! There is a lot of help in the form of meds for adhd - so take heart - if your son has adhd it can be helped.
You are doing the right thing to be researching the subject now and you will not be baffled by the bullsh*t that the so called medical professionals throw at us on a constant basis.
My advice is get to know your son intimately and recognise his body language so as you can address a problem before it becomes a major one.
He is very young yet - so take heart - he may not have it either.
