I stopped giving my son his meds on the weekends and school holidays - so as he gets his appetite back.  My Ped said it was a good idea.  He is on dexamphetamine howeverYes we've tried that as well. We need to get some weight on him, his weight has stayed the same for the last two years. We are looking for a way to add alot more calories to his already high calorie diet. Our ped said that having a nice big milkshake or yogurt shake near bedtime might help with weight gain...don't know about supplements. You have to be careful though, cause too much near bed can cause tummy wobbles, at least for us... I try to give her something like a smoothie about 30 mins before bed. It has stabilized mt daughter's weight...and having  a full stomach seems to help her sleep better.
Good luck

Hi

I have an 7 yr old who has ADHD. We've tried many meds and so far concerta seems to be working. Here's the problem. Though his appetite hasn't been affected his weight gain has. He will literally eat 6 and 7 meals a day. We've tried having him drink Ensure as a suppliment and he hasn't gained any weight. He gained 1/2 lb in the last two years. He has gotten taller, but not weight gain. I have tAlked to his pediatirtian about this many times. We've tried many things over the last year, but can't find or don't know what to give him to help him gain the weight he should be gaining. Can anyone tell me of any other suppliments that we could give him to boost his calorie intake up another 1000 calories a day?

We use the Carnation Instant Breakfast mix and add milk and vanilla ice cream and blend it together.  It provides the extra calories but also extra nutrients.  My son is a bit different though, he doesn't eat.  He usually eats a huge breakfast before meds and then doesn't eat again until around 7:30 pm.  That is when we have him drink this shake.  To top it all off he is getting orthodontic work now and really doesn't want to eat.

Hi my ten year old also on concerta, is very skinny for his age, on top of not being hungry because of the meds. he is very picky. I've talked to his Dr. about this, and his Dr. says he's fine don't worry about it, let him eat when he wants and don't push food on him, but when you see the size of some of the kids on his ball teams it's hard not to.

Our pediatrician said to give my daughter a multi-vitamin.  He also suggested Carnation Instant Breakfast with milk and ice cream for shakes.  I feed her as many high calorie foods as I can.
