Why aren’t my meds working now? | ADHD Information

Ok, so this is when I am thinkin a "med" vacation? I have only been on Adderall for 2 months, would I already be growing tolerant of it? The past few days, the motivation I had to do simple things around the house, has left me, I feel like I did prior to the meds, sorta heavy and tierd, ( I do have a cold ) not feeling the "want" to do anything, not even my hair, or make up, up in a bun again, so , could it be I am growing tolerant or do u think it is becasue I have a cold? I have a doctor appt the 14th, a med check so I will discuss this with my doc, but what do you guys think? I am so afraid it is the meds, that I was so hopeful and happy when I started taking them and felt so good and now I am so afraid it is never going to come back and I am terrifiied of taking a different med (bad BAD experiences with tons of different ones) Help!

That sounds like the cold. We use Zicam products and Similasan products when mior thing are going on here. We feel they work better than the rest of the other stuff available. Add more C and make sure it might not be the flue. It is going on a lot around here. You acn't get from a Dr. a med must must be done within 48 hrs. of starting. Rn

You might want to check out the crawling thread in the alternative thread.  I have had great success with crawling exercises that are relieving my symptoms and there is no wearing off so far.  I feel like I am constantly improving, the longer I keep them up.

The theory is that there is a reflex in our bodies that is bothering us and distracting us so that we have the symptoms of ADD.  It is a primitive reflex that may stay with us if we do not crawl enough as a baby.

I took Adderal for over a year with much success, but was disappointed when it seemed to wear off.  I took a long vacation, and even tried herbs.  But it wasn't the same as when I first started taking meds.

Now I don't take any and I feel like I am having a better result than even on the meds.

Good luck to you.

Wrong oldtimer.

Christi - what you are describing is most likely your body/mind becoming tolerant to the med dosage that you are taking.  That happens when you first start taking them and after 2 months that makes sense.  You can avoid having to up them all the time as I do using med holidays.  Every 2 months I take 1 week or so off them totally and it comes back stronger.  I only had to go from 10mg dexedrine to 20 mg daily about a year ago now and have been at 20mg ever since.  I may have to go to 30 but I'm going to do what I can to avoid it.

Watch out for Vitamin C as well.  If you try to take it while taking your meds you could cancel out the effect altogether.  Make sure any acids including ascorbic acid are taken well away from your dosings.
