Let's remember the family of the women who died in Dallas from Bacterial Meningitious. The school needs to clean better. She died 1 day after going home ill. School district acts like parents should not keep kids home. They are already exposed if they were at school when she became ill.

I'm a microbiologist of the dirt kind (not human wellness), but this I know: our bodies are designed as defensive forts vs. the attacks of microbes. For example, our skin. Break the skin, do I not get infected? Once in, the defense moves over to the immune system, which stays abreast of developing orgs by building anti-body templates at low level infections, in preparation for the massive attack of a high level invasion. That's what killed the native population of the Americas when the Europeans arrived. They'd stayed in a bio-bubble, and not played in the mud.That's a terrible tragedy but remember that menigitis can happen even in the cleanest environment. You'd have to wash everything with extremely hazardous cleaners all day to keep it away once someone with meningitis gets in the environment. The best thing is once they found out there was an outbreak they then clean up and quarantine the people who may spread it.
Actually overcleaning is what causes many outbreaks. Children who used to wallow in dirt during their playtime in the summer now are treated as if they need to be hermetically sealed in a bubble. They don't get any natural immunity so they are open to all sorts of normal environmental bacterium that would just be fought off otherwise.
I have to say I agree with Glen. My little one has also played outside, in the dirt, shared her food with the dogs until I notice etc and she is rarely sick.
My friend on the other hand is fanatical about germs. Her son is not allowed to play with animals, in the dirt and is constantly being told to wash his hands after playing with anything that isnt in his own home. This boy is constantly sick, he catches every bug and cold that's going. Makes you wonder about natural immunity that our bodies build to protect us.
