Language disorder is a issue for our son also always has been. Someone said not part of adhd either.
Mine has always been people who don't really get me.
Oldtimer - this particular problem IS most certainly ADHD related!!
We hear the first couple of words - then blur off to fast forward what we WANT to hear. Very true words rayray - how astute!! We care about ME. How does this concern ME. What can ME.. uh I get out of this??
I even get that now to a point. My lovely lady was emailing me and talking about my cleaning of my computer room and also my med vacations. She went on talking about my room and said how proud she was I was selling things that normally I hoarde. In my mind I stopped at med vacations then fast forwarded to the "proud of ME ME ME". I replied "well I know it's important to take vacations.. blah blah blah." She laughed and pointed out my flawed answer. Oops.
ADHD all the way baby! I zipped past the meat and nibbled on the stale bread of the conversation. Damn - and I was sooo close!
We all goof like this. Typical usness.
Very usfull.i think those things happen b/c of multiple trains of thought.
it is so easy for the trains to jump tracks without my noticing. it is sometimes hard to separate what i'm thinking, and what i'm thinking about the input i'm receiving.
it's kind of like one of those rivers here in colorado (and elsewhere) , where there are many rocks in the river, dividing it into multiple streams. the streams don't stay entirely separate. they mingle, and intermix, and separate again. it all gets mixed together downstream, where we are trying to figure out what's what.

No, I've not been tested for it. Thanks for the input. I've been tested for my hearing though, and it's always been normal.dude
dont forget u have add, you prob arent paying attention to what they are saying
Could be a receptive language disorder. My daughter has it. Have you ever been tested for it? The testing has to be done by a certified speech and language pathologist.Does it ever happen to you when you hear perfectly what a person is saying, thoughtfully prepare a reponse, utter it, then watch the shear confusion on their face b/c they didn't understand it?
