I accidently took two of my sons tabs | ADHD Information

Hmmm - we have some leftover tabs of concerta - maybe .....  Just kidding.  My hubby did that once, too, so,  I tried to get him to take MORE! 

Rae, You have got to be more careful! In addition to the dangers of taking the wrong meds, your family might just start expecting more from you now!

They might actually expect you to clean the house every day, clean clothes in their dressers and closets, dishes in cupboards instead of piled on the counter and in the sink! You may have created a monster!    Barb

       After I read your post I went into the cupboard and put my sons in a different one. I NEVER want to make that mistake. Boy, the expectations after that one would be more than I could handle!!!

 

I feel so sick today!.  It is like a major hangover but worse.  On top of that I seem to have developed a head cold (which I must have been fighting, but overdoing it yesterday has just put my body into shock).

I almost feel guilty now that I give these things to my son.  And I question their addictability also. 

Part of me is saying - geez maybe if I had just another one I would feel super human again! - I WONT THOUGH - so dont worry.

But when my son actually asks for his tablet in the morning and on his bad days (when we have forgotten to give him his tab) he says"I never had my tablet - I cant help what I do"  - makes you wonder about the reliance on such a drug.

These drugs have bought much peace to his life and therefore mine.  But I hope that he is also developing control and strengths in spite of being on them.

Being a parent is SO HARD - are we doing the right thing - are we wrong - what if this happens - what if that happens.  Always weighing up everthing all the time. 

I WISH THINGS WERE EASIER !!!!!!!!

I know this is a really bad thing to say - but you all know me by now and know I say things anyway - I suggest trying your kids drug and finding out for yourselves what your kids are going through.  NO DOCTOR WOULD EVER SUGGEST THIS - in fact considering the types of the drug it is probably ILLEGAL to do so - but I am glad I know now!

Hi Rae70, sorry your not feeling well today, head colds suck. 

Both my husband & I  have tried my sons meds, but I felt like I was on speed, while my husband felt focused & for the first time ever he "didn't need to read instructions more then once to understand them".  Needless to say, DH is now on Aderrall also.

You say you question the addictability of the meds.  Perhaps they are addictive if you don't need them.  I had friends in high school that self medicated using speed & cocaine.  They told me it help them concentrate/focus.  One friend said he couldn't remember his lines in the play w/o cocaine.  At the time I never believed them, but now I understand what they were saying. 

What we have to hope is that through teaching them how to control themselves, & puberty will help stabilize them.  And that they learn coping skills. 

The question of whether or not to medicate plagues me all the time.  How will my son ever get coping skills if he is medicated.  According to the Dr. w/o meds it will take much longer to teach him coping skills & it can do severe damage to his self esteem.  I constantly hope I am doing the right thing.  At least I know one thing, my sons has the support I never had.  Your kids have a wonderful, supportive mother in you.

Crikeys!  This morning I accidently took 2 of my sons tablets.  I have some medication for back pain that is in a very similar bottle and the tablets look the same and OH MY GOD!

I pulled a weed out of my garden - next thing I knew i had (by hand, using my fingers) edged all my gardens and mowed the lawn.

My hands are now all bleeding and my cuticles are hanging there.  My hands are inflamed and my back is KILLING ME!

But I cant believe how focused I was and how much I got done - I am a bit off the planet now coming down.

 hmmmmm  lets see hae a bad day not getting anything done around the house at all . accidently takes sons meds hmmm sounds great to me  am concedering the same mistake myself lol

Sounds like I might need to do that also.  I just don't seem to get anything done even though I am always doing something.  Might "freak out" my family though  and they would also expect it all the time. 

 

Most definitley be careful... most high schools have a significant street value of stuff such as Ritalin and Adderall. (About 3-5 bucks a pill I believe) But if they learn control then they gain not only respect from parents, but believe it or not, their friends as well. That way when they run into such underground festivities such as blow or coke whatever you wanna call it, they don't get their mind in the "money survival" mode. i.e. selling and profiting to gain more. You're definitley right though, its all in the way they see it and stand above it, not BELOW it.
