I want a real job!Hi everybody, I just started ANOTHER new job today, after I got fired from the one I started about a month ago. Its another hellemarketing, oopps! telemarketing job. I hate It already Heres where I need some advice. I want to get back into the field of Health Ins. Billing & Coding. But before I get my coders certification, I need to at least get my foot in the door at another position in a hospital or Dr. office. From what I have read in prev. posts, NOBODY would tell their employer that they have ADD/ADHD. Thats great, but most hospitals & docs do drug testing. Unless I could find a doc in a private pratice, I might stand a chance. Here in Tampa Bay, Mease Hospital owns most facialities & do drug test. Bottom line is, how do explaine the Adderall they will find? and even if I went off of it (which I don't want to,b/c it keeps me functioning somewhat normal), in the future they will find out through random drug testing. Any advice? or has anyone else a simular expierence? Latina: Check out this website for information on the HIPAA law, this is a law that a friend of mine who is actually a Human Resource Director explained to me when I first started my Adderall. I chose to tell my employeer and within 5 months of me taking it I was fired because of things that I had done in the past...what's sadder is that I had made so much improvement in my work and my preformance that it literally scared my boss so she set me up. As it was stated to me off the record and off company property I was fired because I did my job too well. I won't tell my next employeer about the ADD or Adderall. Here's the link... Well - apply for the job - if you get the interview - dont take your meds for two days and KEEP IT TOGETHER FOR THE INTERVIEW. When you get the job - start your meds again. When they do the random drug tests - have your doctors certificate in hand stating what the drug is for. If they dismiss you because you take meds for adhd - they are then up for discrimination. But if they dont hire you because you have ADHD - you cant prove that is why they didnt - all they have to say is you did not meet the recomended criteria - or whatever. Get the Job - then if you have - drop the bombshell. We have to be a little tricky in life to get by - PLAY THE GAME. Thanks for the advise Jazz& Rae. I will have to check out those links. It really sucks, Jazz to get fired just because your boss felt intimadated by your performance, but if you haden't told them about the adderall, things would have probably been OK. Just not fair! And Rae, I think I will try that. I just hope I can keep it together for the interview! Than like you said, if I was tested and let go on the grounds that I have ADD, that would be discrimanation. You said,"We have to be a little tricky in life to get by-PLAY THE GAME. I like that. It should be the official ADD/ADHD Motto. Thanks again y'all! |
