I have been on Concert and Citalopram for three months now. I lost my sex drive completely, and when I say completely I mean completely! My wife was getting tired of waiting for me to come around so I talked to my Dr. She put me on Welbutrin to counter the side effects. I was a little skeptical as I did not understand how another AD/HD med was going to help counter that side effect.
It worked wonders. It's funny ever since I got on Welbutrin my wife has stopped watcing her Matthew McConaughey movies collection!!!
pamm, I think I mentioned it earlier on this thread but just in case I didn't, I didn't notice a really big change on the Wellbutrin as far as the ADD symptoms went until I started taking omegas with it. I had taken it off and on for years but it was only when I took the omegas that I felt like it really was a good ADD med for me. I don't know if it will work for you, but if you could try it for a month or so, it may be worth it. It can take that long to show a difference. You could even take them while you tried something else as long as your dr knew so it wouldn't interact with the meds.I am a 36 year old woman and was just diagnosed with ADD and am currently on Wellbutrin 300mg a day. When I started Wellbutrin ( for depression ) , I began to feel normal and alive again. However, my ADD was just out of control, so my Dr. put me on Stratera 40mg a day to start and then to go up to 80mg in a week. I could not even get through two days!!!! I feel terrible, after 30 minutes of initially taking it. I am in a sad, drunken state all day, I feel like I have a tight metal clamp on my head, my eyes feel weird, then I come home from work and cry and feel a huge lack of motivation. I am not going to take it tomorrow - I know that some say to try and get through it for a few weeks, but I can't. I don't even talk when I take it, I am like a zombie. I am just going to take the Wellbutrin, which has worked wonders for me and hopefully, when I go back to my Dr., she will be able to do something different for the ADD. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am really concerned and would like to get these ADD symptoms under control (obviously without taken Stratera).
Thanks, Pam
I just wanted to let you know that due to temporary money issues and my dr not having any samples left in stock, I have not been taking my Wellbutrin for 6 weeks or so.
I can tell the difference. Not only is my energy level down, I am having problems sleeping and making stupid, careless mistakes. The mistakes are not actually carelessness on my part although that is what they look like. I can double check and still not see them. I also don't have the brain power I had on them.
I feel like that guy in the book "Flowers for Algernon" about a rat which was put on a med which turned it into a genius. They gave a retarded boy the same med and he became a genius, only to watch the rat revert back to being a rat. He could see the changes in himself as he slowly went downhill mentally and knew that he too would end up retarded again and hated it.
Basically, I wanted to let you know that it worked better for me than I realized. I will be back on it within days and will do whatever I need to in order to stay on it.
It works.
I take 300mg of wellbutrin in the morning along with my 60 mg of Ritalin LA. I also started taking my wellbutrin in the AM because I was having trouble sleeping. I have been on this combination for a few years. Seems to work for me
I have taken Wellbutrin off an on for years. I was on it for several months and had to go off it when I ran out and couldn't afford to refill it at least 6 weeks ago. My dr was out of samples and I expected to be able to get a refill within days, so I didn't apply for free meds online. I couldn't see where it was doing a lot of good but I did see some improvement, mainly in my moods.
Since going off, I have realized that it made a huge difference for me. Things that I was having no problem with such as word recall and being able to play word games and win are suddenly totally beyond me. I feel like I have suddenly become brain dead. I think before, the changes of getting it into my system and going off were gradual enough that it wasn't obvious. This time, it was.
I'm surprised that he put you on the full dose all at once. Usually, people start at the lower dose for a couple of weeks and then go up. If it seems to be too much, I would contact my dr and ask about either taking 150 mgs for a while and then upping it if you need to. I found that with me, I usually felt a major difference within the first few days and then it leveled off and I didn't really notice the difference for a few weeks.
Im going to see my doc thurs, he wants to put me on wellbutrin. I know its not classed as a stimulant, but does this drug help with increasing energy levels? I have been on adderall within the last 3 mos, it worked for awhile then stopped and didnt work effectively even with a dosage increase. I tried herbal after that (aminos), but it as well worked for awhile then didnt too. Wellbutrin helped me in all areas but I can't say it will do that for everyone. What I can point out is that anything which elevates your mood will seem wonderful at first but then your body will get used to feeling that way and it won't feel so wonderful. That doesn't mean it stopped working. It just means that your body has decided that is the normal state now and stops singing about it.
You may need to adjust the dose, or you may need to just get used to using self discipline to get you up and about. The med should make it do-able where before you couldn't even get it together enough to start. Thats what happened with me anyway. some encouraging words, thanks Barb. I hear they prescribe stimulants along w wellbutrin sometimes, so he might suggest I try a different one with it such as dex or something. Has the Wellbutrin worked alone for you
?
I have never taken anything but Wellbutrin. I have considered stims and may try them at some point in the future if I go back to college or get another job in a fast paced environment. For now, as a stay at home mom, the Wellbutrin is working. I actually think it was working better this last time I was on it, but I had also started taking the omegas as fish oil capsules. Neither one seemed to work well on its own, but I do think the combo worked.
Let us know how it goes and if it helps! - Koko have you tried SAMe's, one ususally helps me get back into my sleep patterns on a Monday. Melatonin helps too, but it usually tires me out the next day. I dont know if they are recommended to be used w stims or wellbutrin though.
brettlongmore Thanks for the info I will ask my doc about the xl.
bazcolin I have not tried SAMe's, I have heard of SAMe, but don't know much about them. I think they help with mood too? I will have to research them. THANKS!
My doc just put me on Wellbutrin SR as both Adderall and Concerta caused me to feel Anxious/depressed.
My question is about dosing. He put me on 150MG twice a day. This seems like a high dosage. I am definatly allready feeling it and it is only day two. My uderstanding is that it builds in your system. If I am feeling almost euphoric on day 2 is it going to be too much as it builds?
I have been on wellbutrin for some time now, I had problems sleeping while I was taking the same dosing as you. I switched to the XL and take it all in the morning and it works great, no problems sleeping. fyi I am currently on 60mg of adderal 3 times a day and 450 wellbutrin XL in the am, I'm 30 yrs old and 215 lbThe euphoria disspated after a few days. I guess my body just had to adjust. This med has been nothing short of amazing for me. I feel "normal", not my normal normal, but a new normal. I genrally feel relaxed and able to get things done. I know it is helping with my focue because I can suddenly manage keeping the house clean and having time to just play with the kids. It is wonderful!!
I have started having difficulty sleeping though. I don't have difficulty falling asleep, but am having vivid dreams and waking up like 10 times a night.
I have tried Melotonin the last two nights to no avail. I am hoping that this will pass as I really don't want to add sleep medication to my ever growing arsonal of meds. I think I take more pills each day than my Grandma.
